Root R2BA020 is out

i have R1FA014 and the pc companion program says my phone is up to date. how do i use the SEUS? would you be kind enough to provide instructions.

Do you have SE Update Service installed on your computer? If not, go to the SE website and download/install it. Then once you open it, it will tell you what to have prepared in order to update. Then it will ask you to select your phone. Once you've selected your phone, it will tell you what to do from there. Just follow the instructions as they are presented to you and you should be good to go from there.

-It will tell you to turn off the phone, remove the battery for at least 5 seconds, then replace it.

-Then to plug your USB cable into your computer then to hold down the Back button.

-While holding down the Back button, plug the mini-USB into the phone, then continue to hold
the Back button until it tells you to release it.

-After it does a firmware check, it will prompt you to update (keeps previous settings) or install from scratch (erases all settings).

-Then once you select the method, it pretty much does everything else for you.

Just remember that once it tells you to hold the Back button on your phone, don't release it until it explicitly tells you to. Also, that the first startup after an update will take longer than usual so just be patient, it will load to the homescreen eventually. Hope this helps!

thanks for the info. yes, i have installed the SEUS. started the program,
- select X10
- turn off the phone
- remove battery, then reinsert after 10 sec
- connect USB while holding the back button
- release the back button
- does the firmware check
it comes back saying 'your phone already has the latest software. surely, i know my firmware is not the current one.

any idea??

What firmware version do you have? I have read on here about some X10 owners in the US having trouble updating to the latest firmware (R2BA020) and that it depended on their service provider or how they came to own their X10 (i.e. whether they imported it or not). It is also possible that the update hasn't released there yet. Maybe check some of the other Update threads in the X10 section to see what others have done. Hope this helps!

my firmware is R1FA014. i bought the phone from a store in San Francisco and i sure they got the phone oversea. does it really matter where the phone comes from for the firmware update?

anyone else in the US having the same issue with unable to upgrade to R2BA020 from R1FA014 ??

Well, if the phone was purchased overseas and hasn't been branded by a US provider then you'd probably have to wait until the firmware is released in the UK. I would think it matters where the phone comes from as the updates are region specific. For example, many other people were able to update to R1FA016 but no one in Canada was able to unless they debranded their phone or had bought a phone that was from the UK. So when I updated to R2BA020 late last week, I did so from R1FA014, the firmware you have now and the one that came with my phone when I bought it through Rogers.

I looked at one of the update threads and there was a person on a US provider (T-Mobile, I think) who updated their phone just fine using the method that you tried with the Update Service.

When you look at the info about your phone, does it say X10a or X10i?

my phone says 'X10i'. do you have the thread of the person in US with t-mobile? i wonder if that phone is X10a or X10i. are you implying X10i phones can not upgrade right now?

What I'm saying is that SOME X10i phones cannot upgrade right now. Specifically, those in/from the UK and are unbranded as per the update thread I mentioned. I'll edit this post shortly to add the link to that thread (assuming you haven't found it yet).

From what I can gather X10a are phones that are from the North American region/phones that work on networks that support 3G, while X10i are an international phone that is more likely to connect to EDGE than 3G. Someone correct if I'm mistaken here.

The update thread can be found here. I believe on the second page one of the posters said they were able to update through T-Mobile in the US. Hope this helps!

i just read this thread, thanks. one guy in LA, CA, with the X10i was able to upgrade using SEUS.

one quick question, when i ran the SEUS, i thought my battery level was at 67%. then after a couple of tries, my battery was down to 2%. on a curious note, assuming my battery level was really less than 50% at the time i attempted the upgraded. you think that could be an issue???

i did it using window 7 even though the program recommends to use window xp. does it make a different?

** update ***
hey JDwan, i was able to upgrade OTA to R2BA023. everything seems fine thus far. thank you for all your help and suggestions.

my, this is certainly very very confusing to say the least. i read your link, two guys from LA (with X10i), one says OTA did not work but SEUS work, while the other one says SEUS did not work but OTA work.

i have tried both pc companion & seus, both failed to work. the only option to try is OTA. your thoughts???

*** updates ...
thank you again for all your help JDwan. i was able to upgrade to R2BA023 using OTA.

Hey All,

Us Canadian kids never received the Createtouch app with the R2BA020 update. Can someone tell me where to download the APK? Please!

This happened to me when I updated on my phone or check for updates. When I updated I was at 97% and it had drained down to 2% but I noticed that it would recharge very quickly after. Doubt this is an issue, it's probably just the way the phone does updates/checks firmware.

I have been doing everything using Windows 7 and I've never had any real problems. It supports any Windows platform released after XP as well, so it shouldn't be a problem.

You're quite welcome! Glad to hear that you got the update to the latest firmware.

My thoughts on the OTA update is that since you had a phone with a generic firmware you were able to do this. I'm not really sure though. It would seem, to me, that the phones in North America that were branded by a carrier (like mine with Rogers and that guy's phone with T-Mobile) had to do the update via the Update Service, while the other phones (like yours and that other guy you mentioned) were able to do the update OTA. Though I would have thought that you would be able to get the update through either method. Oh well. You got it figured out and have the update. Hope you enjoy the performance enhancements it brings. Glad I could lead you to the proper information.

I'm looking into this but so far it seems it had to be downloaded through PlayNow which us Canadian kids don't have access to either. I think this is due to Rogers wanting us to use their urMusic app instead (not sure though). Anyway, I'm looking at some stuff on the xda forum right now about it (getting Creatouch) and will let you know if I find anything out.

Thanks! I love this forum. So many nice people. Minimal Trolls.

So far what I've found is that the only way for Canadian users to get Creatouch is to debrand their phone (that choice is yours, I haven't done this myself). I've also found that most people are disappointed with the app and say that while it does what it says it can do, they could do the same thing on their computer.

Anyway, this is what I've found. In summary, no Creatouch unless you debrand and overall response has been that it's been a disappointing app. Hope this helps!

okay great... i've finally got the update.

and just wanted to check the version it updated to and i was like "WOOOT!!!"

it has updated to R2BBA023?

thought R2BA020 was the latest?

I think the FW R2BA020 is okay, my phone is currently running the base band R2BA020, it is above average in my opinion.

Don't know how to update / upgrade to R2BA026 though. Not a geek or wizard.
