Help HELP: i can't upgrade to Froyo... WHY?

HI EVERYBODY,
i just received my new Samsung i9000 Galaxy S that i finally purchased after months that i wanted it... despite my expectations, this phone has still Android 2.1 Eclair.

Before i started using this phone, i wanted to Upgrade to Froyo, so i installed the CD's that i was given with the Phone, which are the installation for this program called: "KIES" (version 1.5.3)

I attached the Phone and Kies immediately Recognized it, so i clicked on Firmware UpGrade but after a few seconds it gives me a message stating:

"THIS DEVICE CAN NOT BE UPGRADED"

And it doesn't allow me to do anything.

Does anyone know some kind of different procedure to install the Firmware without having to Root the device?

Thank you for any info

Hello,
i searched around the Web and i found out that apparently Samsung had to take back to UpGrade to Android 2.2 Froyo due to some issues with the Galaxy S and it will be re-posted on Kies when these problems will be solved...

Has anyone heard about this?

Have you installed the most recent version of Kies direct from the Samasung website? I had the message telling me that my phone cannot be upgraded then I installed the most recent version. Also make sure that you have a full battery because for some reason it wouldn't let me upgrade with half full battery!!!
Another thing too which is stupid but made a difference, I have 4 usb ports on my windows vista pc and not all of them were compatible with my phone... took a bit of switching around before I got there but I did in the end!!!

Good luck :)

Hello,
actually i installed Kies from the CD provided with the Phone, i think is version 1.5.3... i didn't download it from the Internet... what version did you use to make that UpGrade?

I have to say that my Battery was not fully Charger... it was about 60% when i tried, but i didn't have any problems with the USB Ports on my Windows XP Computer.
Thank's for any additional info

If your version of Kies isnt Kies 2 then i would uninstall it and install Kies 2 here :Samsung Apps In my opinion, it is much better than the original version and if there is an official 2.2 upgrade available, you will be prompted to upgrade.

Hello,
i went to the link indicated, but it does not let me download anything... is only a presentation page with no links to Downloads, and i tryed to look around here in there in the pages of that site and still, nothing that gives me a File to Download.

It's funny though, i found some old posts of people that instead states that to get the Froyo Update you need to use an older version of Kies and not the most Updated... i was able to find and download Kies 1.3.0 but i still haven't tried yet to install it, instead i have been unable to find Kies 2.0 until now... i will try to search elsewhere.

Weird... the link works for me. Try this one .http://www.samsungapps.com/about/on...c_20101122&LANGUAGE_CODE=ENG&COUNTRY_CODE=GBR

Thank's,
this link worked, now i will have to try to Flash the Phone, but i just realized that i first have to make sure that it won't mess up my frequencies... i bought this i9000 that has been unlocked to pick up 3G also in the 850mhz Network and i would not want to lose this capability since i will use AT&t 3G

I will keep you posted
Thank you again
