T Mobile 3GB FUP reducing to 500mb?

Exactly. But T-Mobile are being assholes about it and trying to convince innocent customers that they can't cancel. And to ones that do, they're trying to chase them with termination fees, and holding the PAC code (so you can unlock the phone) hostage until they pay it, which is completely ridiculous.

If you have T-Mobile, bought it direct from them, and have the 3GB FUP, cancel your contract. We'll teach them a lesson, they're a bad company.

Its illegal Im sure.

O2 did something like this a few years ago, affecting existing contracts. they were forced to let people cancel with no termination fee and to let them keep their handsets

T-Mobile - Help & Support

T-Mobile Statement:

“On Monday 10 January 2011 we announced that, in line with the rest of the industry, T-Mobile would be reducing its Fair Use Policy for data usage to 500MB a month for all mobile phone customers. Following a further review of our policy, these changes will now be introduced from 1 February, to new and upgrading customers only - not existing customers.

There will be no change to the data packages for existing customers for the duration of their contract and we apologise for any confusion caused. The revision to the Fair Use Policy is designed to ensure an improved quality of service for all mobile internet users."

Lysa Hardy, VP, T-Mobile UK

Information on new data policy:

From 1 February 2011 new and upgrading customers will be given a monthly 500MB data allowance. There will be no charge for those customers exceeding that limit, and those who do will still be able to access important services such as email and web browsing, however file downloading and streaming services will be restricted. Customers will then have the option to increase their monthly Fair Use Policy to 1GB a month by purchasing a Mobile Broadband Booster. This will ensure an improved quality of service for all of our mobile internet users.

o2 did the same - my Dad is still on a truely unlimited iPhone plan but not long after they changed it so new/upgrading customers will be hit with a cap

yeah Im on the "unlimited" O2 data plan (20GB FUP) and not long after it was introduced to iphone, then to everyone.

Really don't know what to do when my contracts up

Sounds fair enough from T-Mobile. It seems what I was told and mentioned above in the thread was true.

What was your source? The original statement definitely said that it would apply to existing customers and that they were in the process of notifying their contract customers.

I have no doubt that they would have tried to force it on everyone if it weren't for the consumer backlash.

if only the morons had thought of doing this in the first place, they could have avoided all the strife and backlash....

lesson learned here today tmob!

It does make you wonder what the hell goes through the minds of these people, surely they should have known this was going to happen.

They couldn't have thought everyone would have just rolled over and accepted it,or maybe they did.

For people who probably get paid stupid amounts of money they come across pretty thick to me.

actually they probably did think the majority WOULD accept it...I was reading a small article in the metro today..something bout the age of DIY coming to an end because...shit..forgot the term they used...techno something or other...

but basically was like the age of the DIY'er etc was coming to an end because the DIY'er was growing up so to speak...so I guess it could be kinda the same thing here...we care less and less what things can do...just that they are the 'latest' thing...I mean...hell...the iphone is living proof really of that..

oh and im not trying to start an iphone fight off lol just the fact that with each 'new' one there hasnt been something awe inspiringly 'massive' as is ALWAYS hyped...yet no one cares...they still buy it without question.

surely dropping this limit to 500mb a month is an infringment of my current 24 month contract, I was sold the desire on the provisor that i could be connected to the internet, to use internet, facebook, twitter, youtube, have push emails sync calendar, sync facebook contacts etc - all day and and night.
And now they are saying I cannot, or if I do I will be charged or cut off?

time to move to another provider t-mobile, just like I did with O2 10 years ago.

the recent links above actually say that Tmobile will honour the contracts already in the system but that this change is for NEW customers and UPGRADES....old customers will be fine..:)

Thanks for the reply deanshep85
However isn't and upgrade the same as an old customer?
everyone's contract expires, if you renew, then you've upgraded? as 9/10 the deal you had no longer exists?

well yes when your contract finishes then yes you would fall under the new terms most providers do it though with contracts..just this time the change was quite large enough to cause a big fuss..

so like I said "time to move to another provider t-mobile, just like I did with O2 10 years ago." still stands.

well at least I have until october to renew my contract. who know what may happen, but I will be having chats with them about them limiting the phones uses!

to be fair I think most people switch their contracts when its up due to shiny new deals...and phones...I dunno too many now that do stay with the same one over time...

though yes im aware people do...so no one point that out :D

Agreed.

I am very loyal in unless they have upset me in one form or another. but in 20 years of owning a mobile, I have been with (securicor/cellnet/bt/o2) whatever they call themselves now but moved to t-mobile in 2004 because they capped internet and carry over free minutes and crap phones!

to be fair t-mobile have put up with a lot of crap from me as a user, but they have deserved it, but have always played fair, so may be.....you never know what may happen. do they want to loose me as acustomer just for unlimited internet(fair usage) - i doubt it, but never can tell i wont be pushing it!

ah....BT Cellnet...one of the first UK providers to trial and expand the WAP connection.....good times...with lil trium phones...tiny tiny tiny screens.....2 games..and the only thing that was downloadable content then was logo graphics and mono tones...

good times..

So a 2 year contract was a good idea afterall. ;) whilst the idea of being out of contract only 1 year into 2 was exciting, i don't know how i'd of replaced my current 300/UL/UL

In which case you just stay on a rolling contract with the phone you have, or switch providers. It's sly but o2 did it a while back with their iPhone tarriffs - used to have unlimited data but then changed it so new/upgrading customers only get 500MB or something
