This update is for the Motorola Droid 1 only and will probably brick your phone if you try to use it.

Here is a link to the Motorola Devour forum here at Android Forums: Motorola Devour - Android Forums. There is also an "All Things Root" subforum that will give you everything you need to know about rooting your phone.

P.S. Welcome to Android Forums. :D

Froyo Update 1 of 2:

Another OTA update (FRG22) will be coming soon. In order to install it, you must have the update from this thread (FRG01B) installed first.
--------------------------------

This thread explains how to force the official Android 2.2 Froyo update to your Motorola Droid. It is made up of two guides. You will have the option of choosing to install the update with either the use of your computer or completely on your Droid. Both methods have been tested thoroughly and work perfectly. With both methods, it is highly recommended that go slowly and read through the entire guide before you begin. It should take no longer than 10 minutes to follow each guide all the way through.

For information about what exactly is included in this update, please see the official release document.

Warning:
-Do not attempt to install this to anything other than the Motorola Droid.
-If you are running anything other than stock 2.1, you will receive an error.
-If you attempt to apply this update with a custom ROM installed, the update will NOT apply.

*You CAN apply this with SPRecovery or Clockwork.

Disclaimer: By continuing, you understand that neither Android Forums nor myself can be held liable for any damage caused to your phone while following a guide included this thread. You do this at your own risk. No exchanges, substitutions, or refunds.

The Guides (Choose One):
-How to install the update with the use of your computer (PC or Mac)
-How to install the update entirely on your Droid without the use of a computer (OTA)

Special Thanks To...
-LarryR for the update.zip file
-Nexeo.net, Polarix, StrifeJester, wee_ag, johnlgalt, blong4life, Inphosys and Dev-Mob for file hosting
-NickMili - without his help we would'nt have this. He provided the semblance of a file name that led us to the correct file on Google's servers.

Every time I go to download the zip file on my phone it says "An SD card is required ti download update.zip" I have an sd card that message makes no sense. Please help

Sorry to be a total newbie - but will this work with Motorola Milestone? And how can I check whether my milestone originates from Canada or Europe. Appreciate any help. Thanks!

This will not work on the milestone and will probably brick it. As for your other question, ask in the milestone forum and you will get a better answer. I would move your post there, but I'm mobile right now and can't.

i am not able to upgrade my milestone 2.1 into 2.2

This update is for the Original Droid ONLY and is not compatible with the Milestone!!! I would highly suggest NOT trying this any more on your Milestone as it could create some major problems.

Hey thanks for this thread, it is amazing! I am getting a Droid today and will be using this. Seems very easy and straightforward. Thanks again.

Edit: Turns out the Droid already has 2.2.1 installed on it, maybe via OTA update from Verizon? Not sure, but it's great.

i have a motorola droid with the 2.2.1 how do i get the froyo update?

2.2 is froyo. 2.2.1 is froyo with a minor update to fix some bugs. 2.2.2 is supposedly available now that is froyo with sms bug fix.

You already have froyo. If you are asking how to get gingerbread, you will have to be rooted, well for now at least. It is still unknown if Motorola will ever release the gingerbread update for the original droid. From what I have read, the droid's minimal amount of RAM is causing some issues for the dev's working on gingerbread ROMs. Though, I am using Ultimate Droid 3.0.0 RC 2, which is a gingerbread ROM and it seems to be fine, with a few minor issues.

Download the update.zip file from one of the following locations directly from the internet to your phone:

Location 7 | igacek.com [Tested and Verified!]

Location 8 | strifejester.com [Tested and Verified!]

Location 9 | adkgraphicdesign.com [Tested and Verified!]

(Scanning the QR codes from above will automatically begin the download from its respective location.)

3. Move the update.zip file to the root of your SD card:
To move the update.zip to the root of your SD card, do the following:
- Open Astro File Manager
- Enter the Downloads folder
- Press and hold on the update.zip file
- Select "Edit" and then "Copy"
- Now press the "Astro Up" button once which will take the root directory
- Press the "Astro Edit" button followed by "Paste"
The update.zip file should now be in the root directory.

4. Prepare for the Update:
It is now time to prepare the Droid to perform the update. You will be accessing Recovery Mode to do this. Start by powering down the phone completely.

While holding “X” on the physical keyboard, hold the power button to turn on the phone. You may let go of the power button, but do not let go of X.

After a few seconds, an Exclamation Mark icon will appear. You may now let go of X. To access Recovery Mode from the exclamation mark icon, hold the volume up button and then press the camera button.

5. Perform the Update:
You will then open a text menu with four options. Using the directional pad, navigate to “apply sdcard:update.zip” and push the gold, center button to select it.

The update process will begin immediately and should take no longer than a minute or two. It will let you know when the process is complete.

If you get E:signtature verification failed, you have a bad download. Just download again. The servers are probably getting hammered right now!

You might get this error:
Code:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
DON'T worry about it... it just blows right past it and installs fine.

From here, navigate to “reboot system now” and select it. Your phone will shut off and reboot.

Some users are reporting a longer than usual boot time after installing this, be patient and do not be alarmed, this is normal.

If you're having issues after your first boot, do a battery pull.

6. Congratulations!
Your Droid has now been updated to the official Android 2.2 Froyo release! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns what so ever, please post them to this thread. I will be closely monitoring this thread to provide assistance to those who need it.

ENJOY! :D
i downloaded every file link of the update files
non of them didn't work
i always had the"E:signtature verification failed"
what should i do

I live in Anchorage, Alaska and am so tired of waiting for our local cable/cell phone company to offer updates.. they are still advertising their Android 2.0 update for the HTCs they sold two years ago. Anyways- my question is: you say only non-rooted, stock Android OS phones can use this method, not one that has been rooted or with a custom ROM.. My phone though came with no custom features, only standard Android stuff. The ABOUT section says Firmware: 2.1-update1, Baseband version: C_01.07.00R, Kernal version: 2.6.29omap1 dcn637@zch45Inxdroid24 #1 and Build Number MILER_X100.26.1
Do these indicate a Custom ROM and will I brick my phone if I try this?

Oh yeah- also whenever I try to check for updates using the phone settings page it searches and says "Your system is currently up to date" although Motorola' own support web site says Android 2.2 update is available (of course they say you may have to get it from your service provider, which in my case may be two years from now, or maybe never if they just want to wait me out and make me upgrade to a new phone in order to get a newer Android OS version (and Flash of course)

Okay- now I see some posts about this not working on the Milestone version of the original Droid. I am using a Milestone, however it is a CDMA Milestone, which I have read elsewhere is really just a rebranded Droid, NOT a true Milestone (which is a GSM version and is sold in Europe and Canada only). CDMA "Milestones" are only called "Milestones" on small carriers because Verizon had the exclusive rights to the "Droid" name.. so, if this is true (and nobody at my small Alaskan carrier will say if it is, although they will not deny it either- but they clueless at both the tech support and sales departments), then can I do this upgrade successfully? I am not asking for gurantees, but it would sure be nice if somebody out there can say they have succeeded in doing this update path on a non-rooted CDMA "Milestone"
