Help Now that my cap is broken, thinking about the Inspire, few concerns.

Well, now that my samsung captivate is hurt, I have decided on getting a new phone. Not getting an iphone because of price and the iphone 5 comes out in a while. I dont want another captivate because I have never raged at a phone so hard before (I cant stand it when basic advertised features like GPS dont f***ing work). I have been trying to choose between the atrix and the inspire and think Ill go with the inspire. I do have a few concerns though:

1) How much internal storage do I get with the phone (assuming no external sd card?) I have a 16gb micro sd card however it is completely full with music. Lack of space for applications is a concern for me because of this.

2) Are there any common problems that I should be aware of (I dont want another captivate GPS situation on my hands). I am well aware of the moderate-dismal battery life and can handle that. But everything else performs as it should?

Thanks inspire guys!

To answer your first question the device comes with 4gb internal memory but only 1gb of that Is available to the user. From what I've been told the sense UI and other processes are taking up that other 3gbs. So u may want to invest in a 32gb micro SD if possible.
As for the gas I can't speak for everyone but mine works just fone although I've had friends whose gps could not lock on to their location at all. But other than those problems everything works as advertised and is a very excellent phone.

Hm 1GB will have to do for now. Does anyone know if I got rid of some of the at&t bloatware if I could then use that space for my own apps, or would it not let me do that?

Also, is the GPS a known problem for this phone? With the captivate it was a known problem which still isn't completely fixed to my knowledge. Any extra information about the GPS would be great.

You should be avle to remove the at&t bloatware from your phone by rooting it. I'm no expert on rooting so ill let someone else fill you in on that. But that way should be able to free up precious space on your internal memory.
about the gps. As far as I know there are several people on this forum that have also reported gps issues also. It may not be a wide spread thing but there are instances where peoples gps did not work. Maybe just an issue with an individual phone, not all the phones.

I don't use GPS very much, but have fiddled with it a little and it has worked for me every time.
I'm a light to moderate user and the battery life has exceeded my expectations (though, this is my first smartphone, so I didn't have a very good frame of reference for comparrison...my expectations were pretty low).
I don't have any complaints about this phone at all after just over a month of use.

Personally i feel the 1gb avail to the user is more than enough space for apps. (Unless you are an app whore :p)

Personally i have never had any GPS issues so it may depend on the person's location if they are having issues. Never had any issues with anything else and it worked exactly as it was meant to for me. Had the phone for a little over a month so far and i absolutely love it.

i use apps2sd to move some of my apps to my sd card. some apps with widgets will not work when moved to sd though. so i basically leave anything with a widget i use on my phones memory, currently i have 53 apps on my phones memory and have 900mb still available. on my 16gb card i have another 35 apps along with my pics and some mp3s with 14gb available.

gps has been flawless for me. used it on my recent trip to memphis and had no problems. love the google nav over my husbands iphone. and its def a big step up from my captivates gps.

Ya on appbrain I have about ~55 apps total and it comes out to about 116mb. Im just a little worried about situations when I want to take HD video or something (doesnt happen often but I dont want to worry about running out of space when it does).

Good to hear thanks. Dont get me started again on the captivate gps.. makes me so angry :/ lol

Pretty sure Im going to go with the online easter sale on bestbuy. I believe for the 2 year upgrade its $29.99. The atrix is similarly priced very well but the design isn't as nice to me and ive heard bad things about the moto blur launcher.

All videos and pics are automatically stored on the 8gb card that comes with the phone. So basically you can use the available 1gb of internal space for apps.

Actually I think you can't even use the camera or video recorder without having an sd card in the phone.

Edit yeah just checked when I remove my card my camera app opens but says please insert sd and won't let me take pics or video

Hm that is interesting. Ill be replacing the 8gb sd card that comes with it with my own 16gb micro sd card. The only thing is my card is filled with music so there wont be any space for pictures/video. I may have to make some space while I wait for 32gb prices to come down.

Ya my 16gb is a class 2 but I have not had any problems while playing/switching large amounts of music. Ive seen some 32gb class 2 for 50 on amazon.

Another thing im not going to miss about my captivate is the sporadic 5 second freezes ever since I updated to 2.2

If theres anything else I should be aware of with the inspire let me know. Im pretty excited to pick it up tomorrow (already bought it online for 29.99).

I would say check the camera lens in the store I have read where a few people got an inspire where the outter lens rattles. Just tap on it lightly or shake the phone to see if it shakes or rattles. There are youtube videos about this.
Also you can call htc to get a spare battery door and sim card door. A couple people have broken theirs and htc will send them for free. Always nice to have a spare.

And as for the class of the card i did some google searching and have read that the class 2 cards can cause some video lag you might notice when recording videos on the phone. I never really used the 8gb class 2 card that came with the phone went straight to 16gb class 4 and haven't noticed any video lag. So I would have to find my 8gb card to see if there is a difference

Oh and another thing I remember seeing posted here was the screen glass not being level. Can't find the thread at the moment but do a search it had some pics so you can see what to look for. My glass is flush all the way around

Thank you so much! great info. Ill be sure to look up the lens/levelness so I know what to look for when I get the phone tomorrow. Also will get those spare parts while they offer them ;)

Sweet..you will be happy with the inspire..just heads up..u can look up the specs on the phone anywhere on the web..also if u goto support and troubleshooting you will see all the common problems/issues people are having.

i love my inspire recently rooted it(easiest process ive had since the OG droid) running cm7.0.2, if you need help rooting ill help you with it as its a easy process, battery life is ok, not the best not the worst, i put a 16gb class 4 in my inspire works flawlessly. and if your not into custom roms sense 2.0 allows for alot of customization.
