Official android 2.2 (froyo) release for orange san francisco.

I have hear very good things about CM7, but some people say it can be slow on the blade. Does it offer, FM radio, all the google aps? :)

Slow???? Its faster In general (newer OS)
The 2D performance isn't impressive, and the stock launcher fails on the Blade (I use Launcher Pro)
For licensing reasons, you have to patch on the GApps (Google Apps) separately, but they all work fine.

Its sounds very good, definitely something to consider, I think I will wait for froyo to come out, and wait until Mid July, then upgrade to 2.3. Can you back up everything on your phone, including your current rom, so you can always switch back? :)

Yesh. You are really wasting your time tho. You could have a good phone now :p

There is also an official Gingerbread leak too

As for backing up your current set-up, just do a Nandroid Backup in Recovery......so no worries about going back to your current set-up and Android Version.

Just to let you know, I messed up my very first upgrade to 2.2,from the Stock 2.1 Orange, but, as I had the Nandroid Backup done, I simply recovered the Stock Backup with CWR, and everything was back to the start, as if it never happened.....all Apps and settings, etc.

check out this useful guide......Nandroid Backup is featured from step 6

Just be sure you have the latest Clockwork Recovery for you phone, remember also that any version of CWR above 3.0.1.4 is not safe for GEN1 Blades.

If you need to check GEN, use Mr Pigfish or Blade Buddy, free from Market.

I am thinking about doing it this weekend! Can you upgrade your phones to Gen 2 manually? Or will the froyo update do this, if so I will get froyo, then upgrade to cyanogenmod. :) Or could anyone make a youtube video on how to manually update it. Infact what would be good is a video, which shows how to back everything up from 2.1 and upgrade, rom etc.. to cyanogen. Could anybody do that, it would be amazing.

What, so do we have to go to our nearest orange store, for them to upgrade it to Froyo and gen2? :)
If they release it, yeah. Hopefully. You might have to say your phone is broken, and get a replacement. And the update they do makes things difficult as well (You cant use TPT)

Oh I see, so will the phones start to ship with Gen 2 and android 2.2 froyo soon then? I may pop in a see what they can do.
How am I supposed to know? :p
ZTE have had Froyo ready for six months. Id not be surprised if Orange never got onto Froyo.
Its easier to DIY it.

You really don't need a Video!
Root the phone with Universal Androot (from Market), backup what you need (Titanium / MyBackup Root), and do the TPT
You can't really do any lasting damage..

So can you always repair the phone, if a problem has occurred during install/restore? :)

Pretty much.
You should still be careful tho, don't let downloads or data copying be interrupted!
Most downloads have an "MD5" to check the file is intact. You can get an MD5 checker for any popular OS

As advised in my previous post, do a Nandroid backup of you existing set-up, this will enable you to go back to this in the event of any unlikely disaster :D

But, if you are doing to do a GEN1/GEN2 TPT, the GEN1 Nandroid will be useless, as your phone will have a different partition structure.

Gen1 to Gen2 TPT upgrade - Android @ MoDaCo

This will convert your Gen1 phone to Gen2. You will lose your data. Make any backups you want first. Gen1 nandroid backups wont restore on a Gen2 phone. Always check MD5s, one way to do it is to download AFV (Android File Verifier) from the Android Market, search for AFV.

So, if you want to be safe, but get on with FroYo, get experience in flashing ROMs, and be ready for the GEN2 bigger step, do the upgrde to a GEN1 version of FroYo first!!!!

Like the now renowned Swedish Spring

And do use Titanium Backup for your Apps....good guide here

Contacts can be synchronised with your GMail Account, and SMS by using SMS Backup + free from Market....

Have a good weekend, and as shadow says, there is support here in the event of problems.

Thanks guys! Well I have the Gen1 orange san francisco and am scared about messing it up, I would quite like to upgrade it, but I am worried, also worried to flash rom update etc. If anyone could write a complete guide I would really appreciate it!

The guide i linked is fine. You wont mess it up.

I think I will give it ago tomorrow. Unless I get the froyo update early, so I can just see what it's like for a bit, then switch. :)

You can try any of the official Portuguese, Swedish, Hungarian ROMS on Gen2.
The networks in those ccountries add less bloatware than Orange tho :)

FroYo has melted while you have been waiting.....things are moving on!! :D

And I'd say Orange FroYo will be unpalatable :p

Man, your even more careful than me......and I am notorious....

at some stage you gotta go for it, then never look back...

you won't end up with a brick.....I hope (get out clause!!!) ;)

funny thought, can you imagine a house built fro those bricked Blades.....

pretty draughty I'd say

I was super nervous about rooting and changing the rom on my OSF as well. I read the stickied guides but I still wasn't 100% clear (I'm a bit of a thicko!). Thankfully on these hallowed forums there are some real blademasters. El Presidente, Shadowninty and dannymur answered a million of my daft questions and gave me the confidence to take the plunge and try changing roms.

I had my orange bloatware for one evening before switching to Swedish Spring (2.2 - Froyo). The handset was much nicer afterwards.

Last night (two weeks after getting my handset) I upgraded to Gen2 and installed CyanogenMod7 (2.3.4 - Gingerbread). I'm not sure which rom I prefer yet but I love being able to choose. :D

I love my OSF, I love Android and I love these forums!

I think I have been persuaded haha, I will crack on today with this, I just downloaded the latest Cyanogenmod. Now, not a clue what to do. Also, is it worth the Gen2 upgrade, what are the positives and negatives? :)

You'll have to go Gen2 for CM!
Positives; HSPDA, better signal, Partitions better layed out, more new ROMs,
negatives; can't use the oldest ROMs
