Help sd card - LOST?!? what the.....?!?

SDscorch

Android Enthusiast
yesterday i was doing some work in a nearby coffee shop, got back in my car, plugged my cell ph in the charger, a couple mins down the road i looked at my ph and noticed it was saying the sd card was unexpectedly disconnected (or something to that effect)

i was like "what the...?"

i never "disconnected" it! i have a sensation - you have to do a lot of deliberate steps to get that thing out - and i didn't do that

but yeah.. its acting like there's no sd card in there now

its been working great since oct2010 when i got it

is there any hope for me or is it just dead? is this just what happens??

Can you test with another SD card? This would conclude if it's the phone or the card that is malfunctioning.

i have had many occasions that the sd card said not formatted or something like that.... all i had to do was to re-insert it in the phone

I presume youve tried unplugging and reinserting the original card - it could have been a dodgy connection or oxidised contacts.

Also try reading the card in another device (ideally a PC with a card reader) to see if the card is completely dead or not, and backup any important data from it if you can.

Something may have corrupted the card, e.g. a power glitch (you were charging it) that's pretty unlikely though, or possibly you have a dodgy app which has somehow corrupted the card (if nothing else works see if you can reformat it). Also possible that youve got a fake card (if you bought it from ebay or somesuch) e.g. an 8GB card fudged to look like a 16GB one - filling the card past the 8GB of actual storage can wrap around and overwrite critical parts of the card.

But maybe it just went pop. Sometimes things just die of their own accord.

Another thing that can wreak havoc on electronics is heat. If you had you phone on a powerful charger and in the sun, you can literally fry components. And, even if they aren't cooked, the expansion of the materials around it can make it shift enough to break contact and corrupt files.

If you can't read it or reformat it, it's most likely toast.

ok

trying to put it back in again... we'll see if that helps

yes, its been hot here - didn't think it was "that" hot though! summer is just starting!

here's the sd card i bought - ridata

!!!

its back!

"thx" all around!

yeah - put the orig back in and everything is there!

geez.. i did NOT need that kindof excitement in my life (whew.. relieved though)

I'd definitely recommend backing up that original SD card in case you have photos/music on there that you don't want to lose. It may be on it's way to dying soon.

I personally have all my important pictures backed up using Dropbox and my music is all stored in the cloud via Google Music.

The same thing has happen to me already twice. I just got my phone a week ago. And i never touch my sd card. But what can be wrong. Why does this happen?

 Got this message today. Contacted Sprint support and they set me up with an appointment tomorrow. Not sure what's going on. I did a hard reset because I didn't really have anything important on my phone. Still doing it...

RAM and hence SD cards fail all the time, make sure to backup your SD to your PC or something. Yeah, it could be heat, vibration or oxidation too - but it could be the SD on its way south. -t

How did you get your Sensation in October of 2010? Even if it was non-branded, that seems early to me. Wow.

okay, slap palm on forehead repeatedly....
Obviously you meant the sd card, and not the phone. Sorry!
