Is it me or does it seem like Verizon is sabotaging this phone in favor of...

I have the opposite experience with Verizon when I've gone into stores every person I've talked to told me how they want to upgrade to that phone and that they were jealous of it. Even a rep I spoke to on the phone not too long ago when I was removing a feature asked how I liked it and told me they were getting the Nexus in a couple weeks. I actually returned my Silicon case the other day and the rep was asking me how I liked it , even heard a sales person talking it up to another customer

I think it comes down to Verizon knowing where there bread is buttered. By "neglecting" the Nexus and advertising the hell out of the Razr/Rezound Verizon can show sales figures that support locked/bloated phones.

The only advertising for the Nexus I've seen is the lame (IMO) Google hangout commercial. If I wasn't an Android geek and I needed a new phone that Nexus commercial wouldn't sway me away from the Rezound or Razr.

I don't think Verizon wants the Nexus to be a success. It goes against everything they believe in (bloat, locked) If they wanted to support the Google philosophy they would have chosen to sell the Nexus One instead of the Incredible. Just think how many units the NO could have sold if they marketed it like the Incredible.

As some have said, I also think this will be the first and only Nexus device on Verizon.

I'm seeing close to 10:1 in favor of the SGN here as far as commercials.

It looks like the RAZR/Rezound commercials have died down in favor of the Nexus.:)

I would not be surprised if Google ran a commercial this month to promote Android as well.

The thing about the commercials I've seen with the SGN is I would have never realized it was about the SGN unless I hadn't actually owned one. No name nothing mentioned, just what it can do. P!$$ poor marketing IMO! And if vzw wasn't trying to sabotage the SGN, please explain the car mount fiasco they made! WhoTF makes a car mount without a way to CHARGE the phone!?!

but it still supports the notion that the customer is one of the last considerations in some salepeople's minds...

Perhaps I'm a bit jaded, but it's my notion that the customer is ALWAYS the last consideration on every salespersons mind. But that's ok with me, because what salespeople have to say is never a consideration on my mind.

Hey maybe they were just vary optimistic of the battery life :D

My VZW store is a pretty big store with tablets, every phone on display with multiples of some, FiOS representative, technicians, and of course sales. They have 1 (read 1) Galaxy Nexus on display while they have 3 Razrs AND a white Razr. The only other 4G phone they have only 1 of is the Rezound, but even that phone has the Beats earbuds AND Beats over the ears headphones and huge signs pointing to the phone that is up on a pedestal. They had quite a few pissed off people on launch day and launch weekend for the Nexus because there were so many people waiting to play with the phone.

It's very hard not to say anything when the reps are talking to people. I've been in my store 3 times just since the Nexus was released and 3 times prior when I was playing with and eventually buying the Rezound, plus a smaller store in a neighboring city, and they all take people to the Razr first. I couldn't take it in when I was in the neighboring store and a rep kept pushing this lady to the Razr, which I have no problem with, except he was giving her false information, telling her that it would get Ice Cream Sandwhich in January (has there been an update date that I missed??), that she could get an extended battery (what what??), and that it had an HD screen (hey buddy, qHD is NOT HD). I finally had to tell the lady that the Razr is a nice phone but it does NOT have a removable battery, the update date has not been disclosed by motorola yet, and the screen is NOT hd and the only phones that are HD are the Rezound and the Galaxy Nexus.

Needless to say, that rep didn't talk to me the rest of my stay in that store, which was just fine with me.

One representative told a lady looking at the 7" Xyboard and the Samsung Galaxy Tab (not 10.1) that the only difference between the two was that the Samsung was older and Motorola one was newer and had some faster hardware and that's why it cost more. Not incorrect, but certainly incomplete. I really felt compelled to tell the lady after the rep left that what also differentiated the two beyond hardware was the difference in the OS, and that they Galaxy Tab did not run a tablet OS and would never be updated to run one, while the Xyboard runs a tablet OS and will be updated the run the newest one once released by VZW and Motorola.

Ah but I digress.

I think they ARE pushing the Razr and Rezound in that order. My store does have cases, batteries, screen protectors, and docks for the Nexus though.

I have seen Galaxy Nexus (by Samsung) commercials, Beats commercials, and Razr commercials in my area.

I had this thought the other day. A friend of mine was looking at different places for cases for his GNex and it became extremely apparent that the phone was less than popular. The first guy didn't know what the phone was even after my friend told him it was a Galaxy Nexus the dude's first question was "Ok is it the Nexus S?". Long story short, the guy informed us that it was not called the Galaxy Nexus because the Galaxy was just the processor (LOL), it was too big to be a Nexus S, so it was actually the Galaxy Nexus S II...yea uninformed people selling phone accessories is always a good plan.

His second attempt was with a lady who actually somewhat knew what she was talking about but just didn't have any cases.

Try #3 landed us in a store where after much too long of a wait, the girl informed him that he in-fact did not have a Nexus, because all of the other Nexus models had buttons.

That was the point that I realized the GNex was hardly advertised. I think I've only seen 1 maybe 2 commercials for it, and the Verizon store gave it no attention. A single model sits between a Rezound display and, surprisingly enough, a Razr display. The Gnex has no posters or anything. Not to mention that in one Verizon store an employee asked me why I bought the Nexus because she completely hated it.

The Verizon/Moto empire is just overshadowing the GNex, anyone who is informed at all however knows enough to know the GNex is superior to other Android phones on the market.

I don't think verizon is trying to ruin Nexus. But obviously they are not pushing it either marketing wise. I think it's up to folks like us to convince vzw that nexus is worth of carrying and they'd better get next nexus too.

they can only setup displays/accessories that samsung sends them. since they haven't received any, you won't see any.

As a sales rep for a different carrier, I constantly defer customers away from phones that I know are problematic since they're more likely to bring it back. Can't be upset for doing our jobs :/

quick thoughts:
- RAZR gets push due to DROID name. gotta get that ROI on the check cut to Lucas Arts.
- RAZR name resonates with us 30-40ish year olds. Has history.
- RAZR has gimmicky features. Pancake FLAT!
- Rezound has gimmicky feature as well, first vzw phone with BEATS audio. who does that appeal to? a bunch of tweens and high schoolers. how many of them are out there? millions. who pays for those phones? parents.

as stated in a post above, the nexus appeals to a niche group of users. typically women dont want a big ass phone, so there goes a large portion of the public. who will take FULL advantage of unlocked phones? those of us on these types of forums. which i would guess is a pretty small % of the general population.

With all this said, the GN is still unavailable for order at Amazon.

"Due to popular demand, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is not available at this time. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience."

Now that I think about it some more and did a little looking around, I think its a simple solution Samsung isn't one of Verizon's top phone manufacturers. I had to think real hard on the last Samsung phone that Verizon really promoted which were the Juke and Omnia to a short extent (anyone can correct me if I am wrong). On the other hand I remember all of the Motorola phones and even can associate most of them with Verizon, such as the Moto Q and Q9m.

I just think if you look at the track record of Verizon's relationship with Samsung you see its hard to find any phones that were a flagship phone on Verizon that wasn't a Motorola or till recently HTC.

this. the razr and rezound have gimmicky features that appeal to those that dont know any better. "splash proof" my ass.

Verizon has a strange penchant for advertising phones without giving much info about the phones themselves. They like their fluff. Over 88k posts in the pre-release thread and I don't remember once anyone exclaiming that they want the GNex to be able to organize their contacts into circles. But that is what Verizon decided to showcase. At least it can actually do that. Based on advertising you would think the Rezound could blow up street blocks, and the Droids are assembled from super robots blown up by hot chicks...

LOL.:D

On another note the Galaxy line of phones and devices has been advertised to death by other carriers and Samsung.

So when someone comes into a VZW store and says, "AT&T has the Samsung Galaxy, Can I get one here".
^^^ You sure can, but it is even better.:)

^^ This is actually more correct then many want to admit. Now with that said it does sound like someone trying to flame. However the Nexus line has never been a phone for everyone. It is Googles way to beta test their new features and it will and does have some issues.

With that said it is a great phone, and works very very well. I have had no problems with mine, however I also know that should a problem come up I would be able to find the answer and at least be able to try and fix it. Normal Joe doesn't care about this, they want a phone that works out of the box and is polished and finished. They don't care (or even know) what a bootloader is, they don't want to have to mess with kernels or ROMs.

They want a phone that looks good and works well. The Nexus is aimed at a very small nice tech savoy audience. It would be a waste of time and money for VZW to market the phone like they do the Razor or Rezound (two phones that are top line smart phones that are made for the masses). This is especially true with a phone running what amounts to beta software (granted it is very polished, but it is still beta), people that don't have our knowledge with phones will simply return it before trying to fix it. It isn't anything against the phone, it is about what the phone is and why most of us love it.

I wanted the Nexus because I love to mess with my phone, I enjoy testing kernels, getting the latest and greatest Google has to offer. I love the dev community and seeing what people can do with the phone. I'm in the minority though, remember those of us on the forum represent a very small population is terms of overall users. What we love and want isn't for everyone.

@ska.t73: no flaming. I'd pick the gn over any other phone on Verizon but if I were selling to the average Joe, I'd try and get them a phone that simply "works."
