Help Unable to use Screencast with Huawei M860

Unable to connect screencast unless the phone is rooted and flashed with a custom ROM (CyanogenMOD 7). Is there a special setting for the phone and/or screencast to use screencast on an unrooted phone?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Well, the play store desc says it has to be rooted and requires 2.2, so...
 
If you have a stock/unrooted ASCEND,the PLAYSTORE is not going to show the app if it is not compatible w/the ANDROID 2.1 O/S, if it requires 2.2 & up.

Even if you try to load the app from the desktop & send it to your phone, it's not going to work, as the destop version of PLAYSTORE will not list your ASCEND as a compatible device for this app.
 
I was not able to search for the screencast application on a PC either.

Is there a zip file that can be used to upgrade the Huawei M860 to Android 2.2.2 so that it can be used with screencast?

Lots of information on how to root & install a custom ROM.
The thread ULTIMATE ASCEND CUSTOMIZATION GUIDE is an excellent tutorial on all thing ASCEND,it's a can't miss step by step guide.

Not sure how your answer helps. My original question already mentioned that I can use screencast with a custom ROM - which means really don't need instruction on how to flash a recovery or a custom ROM. I'ts obvious that I've already done that.

What I'm trying to determine is if there is a way to use screencast with the stock Huawei ROM or if there is a way to upgrade to Android 2.2.2 or 2.3 - similar to what LG does with there software update tool.

If your carrier is CRICKET, then no, ANDROID 2.1 is the only official O/S for this phone.

METRO PCS offered an official version of 2.2,but,I believe it didn't work well at all. Might wanna ask around the forum if anyone is running it successfully.

Thousands of people here have run PLAYFUL MOD 1.1, CM6/CM7 on the ASCEND, myself being one of them. If you want to run applications that are intended for ANDROID 2.2 & up, this is your best, if not only option.
 
I'm not quite sure why no one is reading my original question. I have a Huawei Metro M860 that has already been flashed with CyanogenMOD. I'm not really looking for information on how to do that. I'm already well versed in flashing. Just trying to find if there is a way to upgrade a Huawei M860 (Metro PCS) to Android 2.2, i.e., maybe over the air or maybe a nandroid backup so that screencast will attach to the phone - without flashing a custom ROM first.

The thread HANDY ASCEND DOWNLOAD LINKS has a link to HUAWEI for ANDROID 2.2, the very first link posted in the thread.

Screencast in Play Store

If you want to see everything in the play store, log out of your gmail/android account then search. Otherwise, it only shows you what you can download to your registered devices.

And yeah, Kolio is 100% right about it all. Cricket stock Android goes up to 2.1, MetroPCS stock Android goes up to 2.2, CyanogenMod6 is 2.2, and CyanogenMod7 is 2.3. If you're on CM7 already, I'm not sure why it isn't showing up in your store search. It really should.
You could always flash back to stock Metro 2.2, root, and see if you can grab it from the store that way.

...because your phone needs to be rooted AND have 2.2+. So you either have to have a custom ROM 2.2+ which is rooted, or be on MetroPCS 2.2 and be rooted. If you're have these specs on your phone, and it's still not working, then it must be an issue with the app, or the way that particular app interacts with that particular phone. Either way, that's an app dev question.

edit: durr, that was the specs for the other app I was looking at, hold on a sec...
 
And, I've already asked the Application Developer. No anwer. That's why I'm here asking the same question. . . .

Well, it only says you must be rooted. But poking around I see that there are plenty of issues here and there among different devices. So you still either need to contact the dev and ask, or run the custom ROM that works with it.
Not all apps are compatible with all devices and/or with all Android versions. You simply take what you can get, or learn to develop.

edit: Ok, then you can't ask the dev. That's just the way that particular cookie crumbles.
 
As stated in previous post, I've already contacted the developer. Nothing helpful.

Also, as my initial question stated, I want to be able to use screencast BEFORE flashing to a custom ROM. Doing it after for the particular task I need will not work.

As for learning to be a developer, I'm already a developer. I know from experience there is no way a single developer can know everything - thus my questions on this forum.

To find out why a particular app won't work on a particular phone or particular ROM, you need to have intimate knowledge of that phone's hardware and software as well as the app's. It's not an easy question to answer.

edit: It's not a common app. xda would be a more suitable place to search.
 
That's why I'm asking, man - because I don't know.

Already searched XDA as well. Nothing helpful.

In any case, I've got it figured out . . .
