Do not make or answer your phone for the first time while driving.
It's very different from GB.
I did this morning and almost learned a lesson the hard way.

The sky is blue, the grass is green, the sun travels East to West and using your cell phone while driveing is stupid. Somethings no longer need to be tested.

Folks hang up the phone and drive the car.

I don't believe talking on the phone while driving is really that stupid, and if you have bluetooth in your car its just like talking to the person sitting next to you while driving.
Now texting and driving, yes that is not the smartest thing someone can do, your eyes are off the road for an average of 4 seconds at a time and you can drive up to 2 football fields in distance in that amount of time.

The state I am in is trying to ban talking on the phone while driving including while using bluetooth, they are even trying to incorporate changing the volume or station on the radio. They had a campaign here saying: "If you don't have two hands on the wheel, its distracted driving.." While they're at it, they may as well say you can't talk at all while driving.

And whats different about answering a call?

Try to more gracious when making a point.
Fact is 90 Percent of folks do call when driving. I wasn't making a statement about the wisdom of using the phone when driving. I simply wanted to warn about trying to make a call when new to ics and driving.

Amen.

I can give you atleast a dozen seperate study's showing how talking on a phone impairs driving, greatly reduces your response time, makes it far more likely to get into an accident. I also can give you studies that show that using a bluetooth handsfree device in not actually any safer.

Is talking on the phone more dangerous that talking to someone next to you. I don't know, I believe it is because the phone (even using a handsfree device) takes more effort to use but I'll admit that I don't know offhand. It doesn't matter because having an enthralling conversation with your passenger is not a safe thing to do while driving.

I'm not saying you must sit in silence, or that I agree with the ban everything people. But when you are driving a car you first, second, third and fourth priorities MUST be safely driving the car. If you lose sight of that you are taking not just your life, but the lives of everyone on (or near) the road into your hands. Driving is one of the single most dangerous activities people do on a regular basis, and it pisses me off that people don't take that danger seriously.

That doesn't make it safe. Do you have any idea how many people die or are seriously injured in car accidents every year. Distracted driving is a very serious hazard and I don't feel it's out of line to address WHENEVER there is an opportunity.
I simply wanted to warn about trying to make a call when new to ics and driving.

Thanks for mentioning your observation. and what exactly's different about answering a call in ICS? I thought still just swiped to the right.

All - We're not debating if it's safe or reasonable to text/call when driving in this thread. Should you wish to discuss it, there is a thread in the lounge to do so.
