How to require password for FREE purchases in Play Store?

Hi folks,

Despite setting the Play STore on my kids' tablets to "Require password for all purchases," they are still able to install "free" software without entering a password. How can I turn this off or add some additional security?

I want to explicitly approve any app, free or not, that goes on those tablets. It's not about the money... the password protection does kick in for paid apps. But I can't believe there's no way to block any app purchases at all.

Am I missing something simple?

The option in Play Store right before the Require password for purchase is Content filtering. I think this option can be set to restrict it further.

I've got it set to "Require Password for all purchases" and have set the content filtering to the most restrictive option (allow content suitable for everyone). It doesn't seem to have any way to lock it down further. I simply can't find a way to invoke a password challenge for every installation. This seems like an unreasonable oversight... I must be missing something!

Try ...
Allow apps rated for
Low maturity

It will prompt you to enter a PIN

(I've never used it ... you'll need to experiment a little.)

Tried that, but no settings would let me completely lock out all installations without a PIN. The Low Maturity setting just requires a pin for higher-maturity games.

On the bright side, I installed AppLock, from the Play Store, and set it to require a PIN for the Play Store and for any Installation/Removal. Now I've got my solution, in that a PIN is asked for before the Play Store even loads.

Control over the device has been restored!

Thanks all!
