Help A few Q's regarding lollipop and youtube

Hi everyone

I have an galaxy s5 and since the lollipop 5.0 upgrade the performance on my phone has slowed down since I first bought the phone (which had 4.4.2 on). I've even tried using the Clean master utility app to clear unwanted junk files and cache.

1) If I do a clean install and reinstall all my apps, will it improve the speed/performance in the same way as when doing a clean install

of windows on my pc?
2) I am getting sick and tired of these youtube ads that appears almost every video I click on. Will it help if I root my phone and install a custom rom or can I just root it and install an app that will block these annoying ads?

Thanks for your help.

Get rid of Clean Master.

A factory data reset will clean the operating system caches that you really care about - especially after any major update.

Backup, factory data reset, and restore the backup.

Check out Helium Backup in the Play Store.

With root, you can install an ad blocker, even on the rom you have, and enjoy a better experience.

There are also youtube ad blockers, in my experience they only help a little.

There are a lot of other changes you can make with root, visit our S5 forum for details, look for the root forum.

Does helium backup also backup where all my shortcuts to my apps are on my home screen i.e. I've positioned all my app shortcuts to my home pages and even created folders. It would be such a hassle to set them all again. :(

Sadly no.

The only way to back that up is either with root or a launcher like Nova that lets you save all of the screen setups.

Samsung does provide a backup that you'll also want to look into.

As it says, it varies by model so check with other S5 rooters rather than take my word for it - I honestly don't remember.

If I decide to go ahead and root my phone. Will I be able ot install updated upcoming OS updates?
If you simply root it and don't uninstall any unofficial firmware (like custom recovery or a rom) or uninstall any system apps you will get updates. And updating removes root

If I root, install titanium backup, factory reset, then restore the backup image, will it restore the entire image it had prior to the reset i.e. bugs, cache, apps, settings etc...? Does titanium backup the exact entire image?

No.

Titanium Backup is a root backup for apps and data, not system images.

For more information on rooting, check with the root forum for your particular version.
