I like to read reviews of products before I buy them. Do you find amazon reviews or bestbuy reviews more trustworthy?

I read Amazon reviews. If anything touts the Geek Squad, I discount Best Buy.

Most reviews aren't too far off. I've checked reviews on products I already own and most of them fit in same criteria and proportion to what's posted in the products own forum or a user forum for it.

not impressed with the geek squad, although one of them in the store most likely is a good 'go to source', but you have to figure out who that 'one guy' is...

You can trust them once you get through the BS.

The BS you have to get through.

The best thing to do is find a user forum. They own the product and will usually be more honest about its workings since they don't have to convince outsiders to buy it.

Amazon reviews are polluted with compensated reviewers who give "honest" reviews in exchange for...reddit is a better barometer for true user feedback. To Amazon's credit, they have been trying to weed out the fake reviews to get back to being a credible resource.

How does reddit prevent compensated reviewers from posting positive reviews? I think all major manufacturers offer incentives for reviews (or even employ people) to pepper shopping sites with positive reviews. I find the negative reviews to be much more telling.

It's a bit like following a Google search - you never take the top few links.

Depends on the product. Some top reviews are just fine. I happen to own the product and agree with them. I might have bought the article on a reference from another forum, so I check to see how others see the item. These are more specialized items for hobbies than popular ones that everyone wants.

It would tend to be stuff like a Zojirushi bread machine.
