The Wi-Fi Alliance has formally announced WiGig, the name for a new 802.11ad protocol that will allow for multi-gigabit data transfers over wireless technology. The tech can move as much as 8 gigabits per second, which is just about 1GB.
Facebook has just announced they are testing 60GHz WiGig broadband in their headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
During this test, they are preparing to another test for the city of San Jose. If successful, Facebook could roll this out to other densely populated urban areas.
