Hey guys I am thinking of purchasing a fire for 80$....rooting it, and putting installing an ics rom. Is it worth it for me to do it or should I just keep saving for an N7..your thoughts?

That's a dang good deal. What kind of stuff do you want to use it for? I think the biggest difference is a camera and more ram for the n7. The kf does just fine for what I use it for.

both are good tablets. n7 runs jellybean right off the bat, but you can root the kindle to get jellybean. a few ounces difference in weight. i like my kindle. a major difference is a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor that the nexus will have. 80 for a fire aint too bad though.

I am a fourth grade teacher and plan to use it in the classroom for lectures and to show visuals for science, also for personal use and for my daughter to use.

I thought the same thing....80 bux! I think I may just put ICS on it seeing that alot of games arent optimized for JB yet....Tegra 3 processor isnt a deal breaker for me..especially if it can run ICS well......

MizzouBrent what do you use your for and have you felt the urge to upgrade to a N7? Have you noticed any performance issues....I have seen that the KF runs a lot smoother with ICS and JB installed...

Honestly my son uses it way more than me for angry birds and YouTube. I use it for twitter, fb, reading and web browsing. Its good for music and whatnot as well.

I run jb and don't really have any issues plus the smoothness is really nice. Ics worked great too though and both are definitely an upgrade over stock.

My kindle was a gift, if I was looking for something on the cheap I'd go with
one of the Chinese tablets. I can't recall the name, but there's one I saw with
an ARMv10 processor with hdmi output, camera, sd slot, usb and all for like
$70. The kindle is really aggravating with no input/output ports.

Hellfire runs like a swiss watch, very smooth response. The only issue is while charging you get no indication it's charging, but in fact it is. I'm thinking of dropping back to gingerbread though, I'd like to get flashplayer back working on it and that's just not an option with jellybean.
