2.1 update april!

I am beginning to have doughts about April now, things seem to be going abit slow of late.

Quick query for the techhy savvy lot, I've not dealt with firmwares on mobiles since the good old Gen2 Nokia days....will a firmware upgrade reset the GIDLocks? Mines is unlocked via an unlock code which I still have so I'm not *too* bothered if it does, just would be handy to know in case I decide to download when I'm out and about =)

Also, can you force an OTA update like you could on the Nokias? or will T-Mobile have to ping it to the handset? Again asking as I don't have the T-Mobile SIM that it originally was sold with and that SIM isn't active anymore so I don't know if they'll be 'looking' for my handset when they do the updates?

thanks for any help here peeps! =)

If your phone is unlocked now it will stay unlocked with an new ROM. Previously ROM updates for the G2 were via an RUU (Rom Update Utility) that you run on your PC while your G2 is connected via USB. This flashes the new ROM to your phone.

i've backed up my phone (fairly recently) with wavesecure.

am i going to loose everything off my phone with this update? never updated a phone before...
what will i have to do?!?

We will be getting the update and it has been confirmed but not until June now as HTC had a few problems getting it to work properly with the hardware (it was more than likely designed with more up-to-date hardware in mind).

Leaked 2.1 ROMS are heavy on the battery and the Desire struggles a bit with battery life too. It's just a guess but I wonder if HTC are trying to fix this before releasing the official ROM into the wild.

I guess we will find out in a few months...when i say we i mean you lot as i no longer have my G2, t-mobile are repairing it at the moment heh

What happened to it?

30% of the time i try to send a text message it will come right back and say it failed and it would repeat that on trying to resend (really annoying).

30% of the time notifications in the top bar don't dissapear when reading/replying to a text message so i have to manually clear it (even more annoying, tricks me into thinking i have a new text).

When going to make a call i click call and it sits there for about 5 minutes saying it's making the call and does nothing, then after a lot of waiting it starts to call.

So i sent it to T-Mobile for "repairs".

Back on topic -> Just read another article stating USA people get a 2.1 updated for the Hero on the 7th, so we shouldn't in reality be too far behind.

My phone has started doing this but only after I rooted. I was wondering if it was a bug with the custom ROM. Have T-Mobile diagnosed the problem?

No their pretty useless, it was sent off for repair, just got it back the other day and sent it off again.
