4.0 no photon

It just updated from 3Q 2012 to 4Q 2012. Not sure why that's an issue, considering there's a soak test going on right now to test an update they were going to release and it wasn't an ICS update.

Well yesterday it was put out no on the photon and i saw the updated list put out in less than 24 hrs.. But seriously can't believe that photon will get it.. Its up to the carriers and sence july 20 last yr i hv only seen anything about this phone on nascar sence its the sprint cup. And that was only for the month of august. So can't see photon getting it. But hey possibly by late 3rd and 4 quarter the sequel to the photon might be out. Oh and if anybody says that it will be out by Aug 1..provide s link. Cause nothing says any date specs ir even a pic.. The photon q is just a rumor. Plus if u root ur phone. Ya might wanna.. Im running 4.0.4 and dam...

When the original ICS list was posted by Motorola, the Photon was listed to potentially be getting it in 3rd Quarter (e.g. anywhere from 7/1-9/30). The list was just updated as pushing ICS back to 4th Quarter. It's possible that the Photon won't ever get it, but who really knows.

I hope the Photon does get it. If it does not, I will have to think twice about buying another Sprint Motorola Phone. I was thinking that the Photon was the start of something big between Sprint and Motorola. But now I don't know. I guess I will wait and see.

Only thing that really worries me is the most recent patent battle loss to Microsoft. From my understanding, the ban of imported Motorola devices doesn't start until the beginning of next year, but I could've read that wrong.

Anyhow, I'm still trying to be as patient as possible, not to jump in and get a LTEvo.

There's technically nothing stopping us from getting ICS on our Photons right now. Kitchen Sink Rom is pretty nice even though it is still in Beta.

Well either way you will be waiting since the LTEvo is being held up. lol. I don't think I will get the LTEvo because of the battery thing. This why I want Motorola to do something soon. I have not heard about the patent battle with Microsoft. I will have to look that up. I'm almost at the point where I can wait until the new Nexus, or next year to upgrade.

Didn't Goggle set up a thing that requires manufacturers to support phones for 18 months from their release date? I'm not sure if carriers also have to adhere to that as well.

So disappointed. I have been holding up installing a ROM for ICS, but that does not seem like it is going to happen.

Remind me to not buy a Motorola again.

Still I love my Photon, it is the best phone I have owned.

Once you root and install custom roms, you'll never go back.

As stated before by others, carriers have the final say on what is updated, sold, and supported. This is more of an issue from Sprint than Motorola. And having ICS pushed back one quarter isn't the end of the world.

I would rather have a properly tested and functioning update than go through an experience remotely close to the OG EVO gingerbread update. That was the worst experience I've ever had with a smartphone. It constantly hit bugs, froze and rebooted. The final straw was a reboot mid 911 call to report a drunk driver that was all over the road.

Motorola Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich schedule updated
Chris Parsons**|**May 18, 2012

Motorola device owners have been pretty vocal about their want for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices. Motorola in response to that, has kept an ICS rollout schedule updated and recently they made some changes to it that will either excite you or upset you, depending on which device you own.

Droid RAZR, Droid RAZR MAXX and XOOM 3G/4G owners have the most to be excited about as ICS updates for those devices should be rolling out at just about any moment right now. Atrix, Atrix 2, Droid Bionic, Droid 4 and XYBOARD owners will be waiting until the next quarter for their updates.

Own a Droid 3 or Droid X2 though? Looks as though you better start looking towards some ICS compatible ROM's as those devices will be stuck on Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the remainder of their lifecycle, minus some bug fix and maintenance releases.

That borked update (and the removal of root for months, preventing the community from fixing it themselves) is what finally pushed me to buy a Photon. Even though root was finally achieved again about the same time the MoPho went on sale, I was sort of done with my Evo even though I still liked it, bugs and all.

As for the MoPho getting ICS, the current official word from Motorola is we will get it in Q4 (which means October or later). Is that disappointing? Sure. Is it the end of the world? Not by a long shot, the MoPho is a great phone with 2.3 (and there are always roms).

Oh, and unless if you have an official link saying the MoPho will not be getting ICS, please stop stating that as fact. Opinion is one thing, but misinformation doesn't help anybody.

Yeah I figured that was the article he was referring to, which is really misleading. It says nothing about Q4, so I wonder if the author has even seen roll-out list. I saw an article similar to that. I can't imagine the Photon, being PC mags 4th best Android phone on the market right now, not receiving an ICS update.

Article showing Photon as #4 :

The Best Android Phones - Motorola Photon 4G (Sprint) - Slideshow from PCMag.com

To GoGators' credit, if this is what he's talking about, this article is misleading and doesn't even mention the Photon. :

I have my own issues with remaining optimistic... LOL!

I'm not going to panic until Q4 comes and we see no signs of ICS. (That is unless I've already jumped ship to the EL TEvo.)

Well, purchase might be finalized Wednesday for an official "Googlrola" day

Google aiming to close Motorola deal by Wednesday

Once that's done, i wouldn't be surprised if more and more info starts to come out about ICS updates and "new" phone rumors.
