5.0.1 Factory Images live for Nexus 4

^ Yeah, but this is the 4 forum for the 4 faithful - we don't care about the N6 turncoats.

:D

I guess I shouldn't say i already got 5.01 up and running on my Nexus 6 in the Nexus 4 thread.

I flashy thinged my N4

Now it doesn't know it's an old phone. ;)

I flashy thinged my N4 as well this morning (after spending last night getting my new laptop up and running).

Went for the "flash-all.bat" route with the -w removed from the "update" line (so I wouldn't lose data), then reflashed TWRP and SuperSU.

All is well so far.

Oh, yeah, I installed TWRP and rooted right away, too. It's so natural for me, I just included it with the whole flash process.

One person posted on XDA that it improved battery life and lag. Nobody else will say anything about it.

Has anybody else experienced this?

One person posted on XDA that it improved battery life and lag.

Considering that the only "lag" I've encountered is after the phone has been running for 48ish hours (kind of seems like a memory leak to me), I'm not sure that we've had 5.0.1 long enough to know if that's been fixed. The changelog doesn't seem to include that would do it though.

I am curious to know what was actually changed in the kernel, but I don't think the 5.0.1 included the magical lag fix (since only flo and mako got a kernel update).

So yeah, I'm going to chalk that claim up to one person on XDA being one person on XDA. ;)

Oh wait, I did actually find what was changed in the kernel:
Code:
mako: update prebuilt kernel

16e203d lowmemorykiller: enhance debug information
afd912b mm, oom: make dump_tasks public
a04551d fs/seq_file: Use vmalloc by default for allocations > PAGE_SIZE
4055751 fs/seq_file: fallback to vmalloc allocation
9c13415 nick kvfree() from apparmor
f17608a lowmemorykiller: make default lowmemorykiller debug message useful

I'm not a kernel guru, but I imagine that tweaking oom, lowmemorykiller, and seq_file could conceivably improve some performance issues. I compulsively reflashed faux kernel after upgrading; I may reflash tonight and stay on the stock kernel for a bit to see what happens.

wow is 5.0 really sweet? im waiting for my OTA, i just did a restore and it should come in a day or two...(still on 4.4.4)

ive heard so much good things about 5.0, im pretty excited.

on a side note, the other day i ordered an iphone 4s online because i thought my android was bricked and it uses a microsim like the n4, it should come in a couple days... sorry :(

im actually planning on giving the 4s or the n4 to my mom for christmas...haven't decided which yet.

Went back to the stock 5.0.1 kernel for a few days, hoping to test if the major performance issue (where everything starts to grind to a halt after the phone's been up for 2 days or so) was resolved.

I didn't learn anything, as I encountered a "Sleep of Death" (where the power button won't wake the device) every ~15 hours or so.

Went back to faux. Stuff still grinds to a halt after a while, but at least I don't have to worry about whether or not my phone has silently fallen into a coma.

I thought those performance issues were supposed to have been fixed with 4.4.4?

Though I haven't really noticed anything except my google chrome and youtube need to be force stopped every couple days, but I have experienced that with all my phones.

A lot of performance improvements were introduced with Lollipop, but they also seem to have introduced a pretty significant performance problem (at least on my two Lollipop devices): http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...-suffers-the-longer-you-go-without-a-restart/

I don't get the FCs, but my phone (and tablet) slowly grind to a halt after they've been running for a couple of days. I was hoping that 5.0.1 would fix that but it doesn't seem to have had any effect so far.

Since I've been on 5.0, I've experienced the deep sleep issue once or maybe twice. Scary as hell. I think it happened a couple times on Kitkat as well, but I'm not sure.

This was the first time for me to encounter the SoD on the stock kernel - all the other SoD problems I've encountered have been a result of a custom kernel undervolting too much. Not really sure what to make out of this.

Just got the OTA notification. It's just installed and is currently optimizing app 123 of 153. Can't wait to see if there are any observable differences.

Also...this is my first OTA in a long time, lol.
