Help Adding Contacts via Text

After several weeks have merry use, my phone is misbehaving

Everytime I push menu touch button while reading a text, it freezes up... so I cannot add a contact via their text message anymore


Any advice? I've even switched to a larger battery which helped a tad, but not enough.
