what can i do to have adobe flash player installed on my 2.1 droid? i went to the adobe website from my droid and it says its not available for my phone

a requiredment for flash is froyo 2.2

so how do i get that on phone? do i have to "root" my phone? how is that done..

lol the day i ask is the day the update comes out. i didnt even know about it. my phone is downloading the update.zip file but its been 15-20 minutes already and its only at 40% is it supposed to take this long??
