Advertised Screen Size misleading?

I just measured the screen on my LG Motion and it is 3", not 3.5" unless you include the touch buttons below the screen or if you measure diagonally, like you would on an HDTV.

This seems to be a bit misleading as I don't consider those control buttons to be part of the screen.

Is this the same case with the LG Spirit, or does it have a true, vertical, 4.5" screen or is it a diagonal 4.5" screen?

It seems they are measuring diagonally, which they don't mention.

Can anyone with an LG Spirit verify?

Considering that the LG Spirit is listed as being 5.08 x 2.6 x 0.37 inches, I don't think they can fit a 4.5" screen and the 3 capacitive buttons on a phone that is just a touch over 5" long.

So it would appear that the LG Motion has a 3.5" diagonal screen and the LG Spirit has a 4.5" diagonal screen.

This is not a deal-breaker but it is a bit disappointing.

the screens are always measured diagonally. Its messured from lower corner to upper corner, I believe the soft keys are included in that being that its part of the glass but i could be wrong.

Yep to both. :)

TVs and computer monitors have always been measured diagonally as well.

hey are you that guy from Australia that measured a subway sub and discovered it was only 11 inches? lol joking with you.:p

I just measured my Motion's screen and it's 3.5 inches. That's not including the navigation buttons (since those aren't part of the screen on the Motion). As others have said, screens are always measured diagonally.

That is 100% correct... Screens are always measured diagonally no matter the device. The motion(3.5") and the spirit(4.5") both measure their advertised sizes, not including the soft keys.

I understood that those had capacitive buttons, not soft keys.

I also call them capacitive buttons and did so in the original post.

Thanks to all that answered my obvious question.

Mods, feel free to put a lock on this one.
