Android Jelly Bean... but?

You might have seen me complaining about updates previously in another thread. But I'm thrilled to see this new OS for my phone, voice recognition even without internet.. OMG :D

But there's just ONE problem, I've read about the new updated notifcation bar, it will have more features and will allow users to control certain apps etc even without leaving the bar. My worry is that I like the notification bar because its the notifcation bar, is anyone else thinking it could become too crowded with all the options and buttons?

ehhh... i'll really just have to experience it first. Also there may be a way to configure the notification bar so that you could only show what you wanted or maybe have a simpler layout

the way it looks to me, its just like the old one, unless you like, pinch to expand and stuff. so i doubt it will get cluttered. ive been waiting a long time to be able to see the content of texts without going into the app.

I flashed the jelly bean ROM released for the GSM that was kindly ported.

it's pretty slick!!

voice recognition is top notch (finally)
new animations here and there
speedy (just like every new device)
aaaaaaaaaaaaand the notification bar is pleasant.

you'll see, its VERY much the same with some goodies.

it's 4.1 for sure, not 5.0 material.

my .02

I think you will love the new notification system. Honestly it is what I'm most pumped about in this release. First thing to note is that only the top notification is expanded by default. You can then use a two finger gesture to expand any other notification. Since I've had it, I have opened gmail and SMS only a few times when I actually needed to respond. Otherwise, I can see all of the information I need directly in the notification bar. It's crazy efficient and useful. I'm excited to see what other developers utilize this and provide some great notification / widget hybrids.

This release is AWESOME!!!!!!!! Take some time and use it and you'll see it's pretty nice the features built in. It really peeves me off about ICS...it's like the Windows ME of Android. They rushed it to the market and they should have just waited 6 months and introduced JB. Soooo smooth. This is the best Android version yet!

Is the version of Jelly Bean your installing the full version? It's got pretty much all the functionality that they talked about at i/o?

I think this is why you have seen so many manufacturers reluctant to launch ICS on new phones. Something better was in the works. I think you will see a lot of manufacturers updating handsets from 2.3 to 4.1. Either that...or they will never get updated and new handsets will come rushing out.

There's always something new in the works though. Since Google I/O is now over im sure the Android team was told to enjoy the weekend and get their brains stirring for Monday where they will begin working on Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie)

Agreed. But it has only been around 8 months since ICS launched. ICS wasn't released at Google IO last year. ICS had to be done to merge the phone and tablet OS.

Last year, only budget phones were being launched with Froyo after GB was released. But this year, only a few phones have launched with ICS. Just seems like manufacturers were holding off for some reason. I can't believe it was a problem with implementation but now that there is a PDK for hardware manufacturers, I think Google might be trying to deal with the fragmentation that Android is so well known for.
