Help Android Prism help with sound

I have an Huawei Android Prism. when I got the phone, all that was on my screen was the lock/unlock slider...now there is that and on the opposite side(right) a bar for volume??? this volume bar was never there before and no matter what I do I seem to have lost my notification sound for texting. also when I turn my phone on it comes up already unlocked, when previously i had to do that. can anyone help I use my phone for Important work and NEED that text notification sound back. I have been all thru settings, re- set everything etc...nothing is working. help? I also dont want the volume slider on the screen at all.

Have you tried a factory reset? That will erase what you have already installed/added and return the phone to the original factory state.
