Help Annoying ads/pop-ups on home screen

mrmons

Lurker
Since I got my S3 I've constantly had ads in my notification-bar. I have managed to get rid of them by unchecking the push-box on each app.

But the last weeks some new ads have been poping up on my screen, both in apps and on my home screen. The ads says "Play trivia for free", "Win the new iphone" and similar. I have to press "no thanks." or "download" to get them away.

They appear in black windows with gray buttons.

I have only installed apps from the market.

How do I get rid of them?

I'd take a look at the apps you've installed, I can confirm I've never had any ads pop up in that manner (only ever see adverts in app)

BynoUK is correct, these ads are included in some apps. IIRC it's the ad platform called Airpush. Try uninstalling some apps and the ads will disappear.

after my kid installed a few games on mine, I started to get these, they normally (some times, if they feel like it, the sun and the moon are aligned etc. etc) say which app is pushing the notification, but they are annoying as heck

Make a list of your latest app installs (you can sort them by install date)

Then go to the google market using a pc, and read the reviews on each. You'll probably see one that is installed with a lot of gripes about ads being pushed.

Then, uninstall that app... It's so sad that these developers have to go so low as to do that. That's ok. soon enough the users will recognize it and not use any of their software.

Good Luck & Aloha!

Welcome to the forum mrmons.

I'd go to the play store and do a search for airpush detector. There will be a few hits so give a couple of them a go and you should find which app is pushing the ads.

"Lookout" devs do a good one

was suffering with the same problem for months! and was actually starting to consider rooting my M8 and forfeit the warranty, until I saw this your post, and followed @Shotgun84 's advice. I went to the play store, searched for an airpush detector and came across "New Airpush Detector" by abRc. it proved to be the best on the market currently. where others failed, it worked like magic. identified the culprit that I lease suspected!
