Root Any way to root an LG Tribute (LS660) with ZV6 update?

ktalley

Newbie
I recently purchased a Sprint LG Tribute (LS660) to use with Ring+. I stupidly let it install all OTA updates after activating the phone (so it is now at ZV6). Are there any viable options for rooting now? Or do I just wait patiently until someone comes up with a process/tool? The main thing I want to enable is WiFi tethering, and I don't see any way to make that happen without rooting.

Thanks much!

Follow the root steps you did the first time, or use this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
Then follow this guide I wrote
http://androidforums.com/threads/tether-fix-solution.936410/
to get tethering.

Thanks for responding HasH_BrowN. Just to be clear -- this phone is pure stock, never been rooted (or even attempted). I had previously read that xda-dev root guide, but the latest posts seemed to indicate that there were issues rooting if the StageFright (ZV6) update had already been applied. I followed a mentioned link to another post (saying here's a root method that works with StageFright update), but it specificially said "For Lollipop only", so that scared me away (since I'm at KitKat 4.4.2).

Honestly, I'm usually pretty bold and just dive in (even knowing the risk). Unfortunately, I just don't have a lot of time these days for trying to fix a bricked/semi-bricked phone. :)

Thanks again for responding and your recommendations (especially on the tethering fix)!

Actually (before this reply was posted), I saw where someone had used Chinese KingRoot to root, and then used a shell script that would replace KingRoot files with SuperSU. Root process worked perfectly, and although the shell script displayed several errors, it did in fact install SuperSU, and root was still alive & well! The tethering fix would not work in my particular case (menu item never displayed -- I rebooted and checked APN settings and my mod was still present). Ended up buying WiFi Tether Router and it works perfectly (well worth the $2.80 in my opinion -- FoxFi and the most others simply would not work).

Thanks everyone for your kind assistance! I now have a free 1GB/month LTE "hotspot" which required a very minimal one-time investment ($39.99 phone, $12.88 RingPlus activation for their free 1000 minute, 1000 text, 1gb LTE data plan, & a $2.80 phone app for tethering). And I can always use it as a backup "phone" if something ever happens to my Galaxy S3. Not a bad deal at all (IMHO)... :)

Re: Tether fix.
My guide didn't work for you? or did you try it another way?

If you did use my guide -
I need feedback so I can add any necessary steps for different carriers.
Would you mind leaving some feedback on the tether link I gave in post 2?? (With any details you can provide, to help others out)
