Anyone in the SF Bay Area interested in a show?

As some of you may know, I do a bit of theatre (with nonprofits) here and there. I greatly enjoy the dedication, camaraderie and positive, goal-focused environment that surrounds every show, and of course I enjoy making people feel good and helping them to enjoy themselves.

And in that spirit, I'm presently in a musical that runs the next two weekends in Sunnyvale. It's called "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" and is based upon Charles Dickens' last book, though he sadly died before he was able to finish it. The playwright, Rupert Holmes (yes, he of the "Pina Colada" song) wrote the book adaptation for stage, as well as all of the lyrics and the orchestration, and he did an amazing job (the show won four Tonys, three of them in his individual name for that accomplishment). He came up with a clever idea to present the story as a "show within a show," where a traveling British acting troupe presents the story, sometimes dropping out of character to give asides, etc. But at it's core it's a mystery, perhaps a murder mystery, and the really clever twist is that the audience gets to decide "whodunnit." With scores of possible endings, it makes it lots of fun for everyone, the audience included, of course.

So I'm not really trying to promote the show, necessarily, just to mention it in case someone might be interested. Wherever you live, if you enjoy live theatre and this show comes around, you should go try to see it. It's tremendous fun and is not often done (partly because of the challenge, you really need some amazingly talented people in some of the roles to make it work...which this production has.)

And if you're in the S.F. Bay Area and are interested in seeing this production, send me a PM and I'll get you details, including a promo/discount code, etc.

Have a great weekend, everyone, whatever you're doing!

Oh, and if you'd like to read Mr. Dickens' book (and many others of his hand, as well as other long-dead authors whose copyrights have lapsed), check out online-literature.com. Along with their works, the site also offers many literary commentaries as well as a forum. (No, I don't participate on that forum, lol.)
