Anyone using AmazonFresh?

Compassion is cool!
I just signed up for a free 90-day trial membership of AmazonFresh. This is a service from Amazon which delivers all sorts of stuff, including groceries, to your door. I'm a longtime Amazon Prime customer, and I love it, and think it's well worth its $79 annual fee (it gives you 'free' 2-day shipping on tons of stuff, and I order often, so it pays for itself easily, plus it gives you free unlimited streaming of movies/TV shows/etc.). But this thing...I'm not so sure it's worth its annual fee. That fee is $299.

Just wondering if anyone else is using this service and, if so, what thoughts do you have about it? Is it worth the cost? The only thing I can see that makes an argument for being worth it is free delivery on orders of $35+. But I don't know. Three hundred bucks?!

I guess that would depend on how much time and money normal grocery shopping costs you, and how busy you are. $299 is a large annual fee, but if your driving across town to do your shopping, and have children, then it might be worth it.

As a single person that lives only about 15 minutes away from the grocery store and can get there without hitting a traffic light, I don't think it would be worth it for me.

I routinely order groceries from Vons (full supermarket selection of products), and have them delivered to my kitchen. They always have some sort of 'free delivery' offer, so I almost never pay extra for delivery. I LOVE it. This AmazonFresh thing would have to compete with Vons in order for me to consider keeping it. The thing about the Amazon service is that they also offer deliveries from restaurants and other places...not just groceries like Vons.

Yeah, I think it's for time-pressed working people and/or folks like me who rarely go shopping because of health issues. I've looked at the site a bit more now and I'm just not seeing any truly COMPELLING reasons for me to keep it once the annual fee comes due. But I'll explore it a bit more before deciding to cancel. I have until December 11, so the procrastinator in me knows I don't NEED to hurry. Yet! :D

For restaurant delivery I have used a local business that does it here. There is a fee for the delivery, but it is small (a few dollars), and definitely less than I would have spent getting there myself. It is great for when you have the game on and you don't want pizza.

I have Amazon prime as well and love it! Hubby recently set us up for a service of amazon that delivers home good items on a regular basis such as coffee, cat food, TP, paper towel etc.....You can tweek it according to how much you use and then it will just autoship to you once a month or however long you decide..Kcups arrived about 4 days before I ran out from the last shipment...:D
I'm not sure if it's a prime thing or fresh or whatever...so far it's just been those staples that have been delivered I will check with him and see what service it is....I think he said it could include groceries as well..but I said no because I like to touch and see and smell my fruit and veg before I buy it... but whatever it is I like it. so far and.I don't have to think about it...and it has actually saved me money in time gas and the prices are actually cheaper than Wally world! Gasp! haha!

:D I use Eat24Hours for that. I love it! :D

That sounds like Amazon's "Subscribe & Save" program.

I'm not sure if it's a prime thing or fresh or whatever...
If it is S&S, it's neither of those. You can just choose S&S for certain items.

I understand! I really do like that, too, but Vons does a great job of choosing for me.

I need to find a service like that where i am .

I am willing to bet there is one in your area, a Google search probably would find it. They are nice, and when you factor in your time/gas in for you going there and back, it is generally worth it.

I love to cook and am good at it, but when the game is on, the last thing I want to be doing is cooking something.... :D

Same here , i like watching the game kicked back eating some nice Chili Cheese Tater Tot's :D

We try to do our shopping once a week and often times by the last day whatever we had bought had gone bad, so I think if you figure that the service could save you spoilage it would help offset the cost.

If you're really time stressed and /or have a fat wallet / handicapped its worth it. I've heard of it. I wouldn't any time soon even if I could.

i've often pondered the convenience and gas savings, plus the environmental benefits of ordering my food and having it delivered but i keep getting concerned about how safe it is. you never know what can be snuck in after many miles on the road. the Swanson's truck that delivered some bad food and made a bunch of folks sick recently springs to mind.

For me, being able to order online from Vons (as mentioned earlier) has been a real blessing. I started using it before my brain tumor was diagnosed, but its effects were making life difficult (like dizziness--I couldn't drive, or walk around a supermarket). Then, after the surgery to remove the tumor, it was six months before I was allowed to drive, but even after that I frequently just wasn't up to shopping. So Vons was truly a blessing. (In fact, I just had a delivery today! They do a great job of picking nice produce and really getting the order right. I love them. :))

I'm not familiar with the incident you're referring to, but just in general I'd imagine the risks are low. In my case--and I'm talking about ordering online from Vons, not AmazonFresh (since I haven't used that yet)--they're very careful and I've never had any kind of safety issue. They have pickers at the store who do the physical fulfillment of your order, and then drivers who deliver them. Across the board they've all been conscientious and careful--it's like they're shopping for themselves, but it's for me. :)

As for AmazonFresh, I still haven't seen anything compelling enough to make me want to shell out three hundred bucks for it. So unless something dramatic happens to change my mind, I'll [hopefully remember to] cancel before I get charged for it.

I wouldn't personally use it much if ever, but I can certainly see a need for this type of service for several people who find it inconvenient to get out and about.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes for this type of service to catch on with the general public, if ever.

My neighbor across the street from me who is a Vet and is missing a leg and in a wheelchair uses the Vons shop online and delivery service because his grown son who lives with him is too SORRY to go shopping for his own dad, which by the way really pisses me off .... this man is a Vet and disabled and you can't get your sorry but up and shop for him

Sorry, some of this belongs in the what really grinds your gears thread .

No problem. :)

BTW, I know someone like that sorry excuse for a son...and he's also a sorry excuse for a son.

I could see this working for folks who prefer to cook their own food when they are home (much healthier most of the time) , but whose schedules are often in Flux. It may be worth it if the choices are good, when you factor in the savings you get from little to no food spoilage. (only order the food you need for that night, or for your confirmed schedule.

I've pretty much decided to cancel. Between Vons for groceries and Eat24 for restaurant deliveries, I just don't see where AmazonFresh is going to come in, and I definitely don't see it being worth its $299 annual fee. However, the free trial is good until December, so stay tuned! You never know. I may totally change my mind at some point. :D
