Apple will be forced to use microusb chargers.

Your holding it wrong anyone.:D

That antenna issue with the iPhone was so funny. I can just see all the people in their R&D testing it, working with the browser and apps, and just after they release it, one of them asks, "Hey, has anyone tried making a call with it?". lol...

I like the reversible aspect of the Lightning cable. Other than that, I don't really have any issues with the micro-USB charger I use for the phones that I've had over the years. Having a reversible charger is a nice to have, but not a necessity. Many electrical plugs are not reversible anymore and I don't have an issue with that. If you can deal with that end of the power cable, surely you can deal with the other end not being reversible either.

I find that having a standard charger is a great benefit in many ways. The first make it easier to find a way to charge your phone when you don't have your charger with you. Many times, friends who come over can charge their phones with my charger even though we use different brands of phones. Also, since I changed phones a few times now, I have a multitude of spare chargers at home and work.

Here in the UK plugs are never reversible (apart from shaver sockets). ;)

Electrical plugs with two prongs can be reversible, like shavers and US-type two prong plugs. I know the UK doesn't use US-type two prong plugs, although they're very common in China for anything that doesn't need an earth connection, like chargers.

I know one plug and socket that can be reversed quite easily. Firewire.

It doesn't take much force to inadvertently put it in the wrong way. And when you do reverse it, things blow up.

BTW I've also seen people trying to force standard USB plugs into HDMI sockets on laptops.

Polarised electrical plugs here in North America are not reversible. One of the prongs is bigger than the other and you cannot reverse it.

Oh yeah. When we design equipment "keyed connectors" (can't reverse) are always part of the design.

Simple solution for Apple, include a secondary micro usb charging port. That said, I would like to see a standard across the board and micro usb makes sense as micro usb 3.0 is backwards compatible with it. The other option would be go back to old school and have a separate charger and data port, of course that would suck.

I seem to remember Nokia doing some thing like that a few years ago on their services.

Well the main reason why apple made lightning cable was so they could make IdevicesSub smaller and more compact so they can add more stuff, they can't do that with a 30 pin connector
