Help Are there serious issues with update 9.18.79?

My Razr Maxx HD keeps asking me to update to 9.18.79

1. There are so many posts about the rebooting issues and others. Is that a rare issue?

2. Is there a way to stop the phone from asking 3 times a day to update?

Should I just update and risk it?

This update will permanently lock your bootloader. DO NOT TAKE THE UPDATE. If you are on the earlier firmware, then can root and unlock your phone. If you don't care about flashing alternative software then it may not be an issue for you to take the update. This week, I bought a used Maxx HD only to find out about this issue. Would make the phone more valuable with an unlocked bootloader.
