Asus Transformer

NYCHitman1

Gun for Hire
Anyone have it? What's your opinion on it?

I recently was able to play with one and fell in love with it. I always declared that I have no reason to use a tablet but then I had the opportunity to play with it and that changed everything.

Actually, I think they coat the screen with crack, so the moment you touch it, you are addicted. I've been eyeing one myself and you can't argue with the price.

The biggest complaints I've heard are build quality (some gaps at the seams on some units) and just the general bugginess and lack of optimized tablet apps for honeycomb.

i for one love it so far, still give it around a 7.5-8.0, yes there are still a few more things both asus and google could do around the OS. the developers will flow as soon as more and more peep psicks up andy tablets, so the apps will follow suit, i say give it around 6 months and it'll be there.

the keyboard is a major bonus so if your gonna get the transformer you really need to get it with the keyboard dock, full usb ports, and the additional 8hours battery life is a god send.

hoping the next update improves the lag that occasionally occurs when on websites esp text input but over all it certainly isnt perfect, could do with a few more updates, but man do i love my transformer :)

Can anybody tell about the sensitivity of the screen to touch (not in comparison with ipad) in comparison to other android tabs?

hey there, to be honest? why dont you pop to a retail outlet that sells a range of android tablets on display and try it out for yourself? every one has different ranges of "sensitivity", i mean, it's like how long is a piece of string?

i think andy 3.1 is still glitchy and doesnt give the same smoothness as I'd like from a premium tablet. but whilst playing random games like angry birds, battleheart, moron test, they all seem to react well to light touch.

Thanks for reply. i got the message i needed. actually here in my country there is no way to test it in the store as no store offer any tabs except galaxy tab (7 inches) and ipad/ipad2. i have to get it from other countries like Thailand/Singapore/UAE with the help of buddies residing there and soon will be back. now all i can do is to depend on the reviews and follow the forums and user opinions on different tabs.
however, thanks for your time for helping me out.

I had to purchase mine without being able to touch it in the store as well...no one has them in stock and there aren't any display units that I have found when at local stores.

This review did it for me. I find that John @ TechnoBuffalo is a pretty reliable source for accurate opinions. After owning one for a week, I'd say his review is right on.

How long would you say the battery life is? 6-9 hours?

How long would you say the battery life is? 6-9 hours?

Yeah, battery life is hard to judge with a tablet vs. a phone.

With a phone, you are using it periodically throughout the day. How long the battery last from when you unplug it until the time it needs charging is how most people gauge their battery life with them.

When I unplug my tablet, I typically turn it off and put it in my laptop bag until I need it. Like last night, I didn't turn it on until about 6:00pm and was on it quite a bit until about 1:30am. I was at 40% battery life left at that point.

Asus claims the device has a 9.5hr battery life and I assume they mean with constant use. I don't know if that is true cause I can't use any device for that long in one sitting, but I am getting over 10 hours with frequent use.

But I've found when using it constantly for shorter periods of time, It seems to drain about 12-15% (15% might be a little high). That would equate to approximately 8.5-6.5 hours with constant use.

I'll try to use it for an hour straight tonight with some web surfing, YouTube vids, and throw in some gaming to try to get more factual numbers.

But so far, I am pleased with how long the battery seems to be lasting me.

Okay, so I played some angry birds, did some web browsing, watched a YouTube video, etc., for exactly one hour. The screen never turned off, the device was constantly being used.

My device was OC'd to 1.5GHz, screen brightness was set to approximately 50% brightness.

Battery dropped 17% (from 82% to 65%). Doing the math, that would be 5.88 hours with constant use.

I'll try to do an hour straight later tonight with similar usage but clocked to 1.0GHz.

Edit: Clocked the TF to 1.0GHz and ran the unit solid for an hour with pretty similar usage.

Battery dropped 12% (from 52% to 40%). That would equate to 8.33 hours with constant use.

Screen brightness makes a big difference. Moboplayer (video player) automatically fully dims it, for instance.

If I recall, most of the adverts and reviews said playing videos non-stop with the screen all the way down is how they time the battery life...
