Root [AT&T] Cannot send Chinese SMS

When I send chinese chars the people receive "???" instead of the characters. The problem is that I'm in China right now (and will be till oct) and I got this S3 off Craigslist in the US. I cannot take it back. I am willing to try anything that might help me with this. I have the native lang installed but every time I try and send a text in hanzi, my phone tells me that the message is corrupted. I can send it but only question marks come out on their end.

I forgot to mention that I can receive Hanzi fine

Wish I could help you here, but TBH I just do not know off the top of my head. Chinese is not usually a problem with Android. You've got a phone bought in the US, but it seems to support Chinese OK, as it can receive Chinese SMS but not send them. A mystery. Maybe an encoding problem? Which keyboard are you using to type the Chinese - "iFlytek input"? - or something else?

You might want to try a different SMS app, I'd suggest trying GO SMS, which is Chinese.
