Root [AT&T] Nandroid backups

I cannot do a nandroid backup until rooted, the way I understand it. So, if I take my stock ATT S3 and flash one of these ATT root-injected ROMs ([HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - Updated [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers] - xda-developers), I'll be able to do a nandroid backup then. My question is, if I flash one of those ROMs, will my settings, apps, etc be gone? Or will they be in place and my backup will be my current phone, only rooted? Hope that makes sense....

They will be wiped...best thing to do is to do the root-injected ROM as soon as u get ur phone

So, yeah, I was gonna flash one of these. But I'll lose everything before I can do a backup??? That's a bummer....

I would think the easiest thing to do would be copy all pics, music, what-have-you over to your PC, then do the fun rooting part....
