I followed the instructions here How to Root U.S. and Canada Galaxy S3 SGH-T999/SGH-I747/SPH-L710! [Fail-Proof][Noob-Proof][U.S. Cellular] | Galaxy S3 Root

and my phone came right up and no problems at all. The reason I wanted to root my phone in the first place is to delete the music player app. It starts up all by itself almost every time I end a call using the bluetooth audio in my car and I never use it anyways so I just want to delete it. I figured that by rooting my phone, I'd see a few new folders and I could just go and rename the app or delete it, but I don't see anything new.

How do I at least disable this thing so it never starts up again? It's so frustrating!

Secondly, now that my phone is rooted, and keep in mind this is all new to me, what else can I do with it? I know I can install custom roms and launchers but I don't really know how that benefits me?

so... i did some research and found out about titanium backup and root explorer and i got rid of the music player app and a couple other pieces of bloatware :D i even found out that i could change the default dialer app. who knew? i'm sure i'll be installing custom roms in a couple days lol

I don't think that you even had to root to get rid of it. You probably could have just disabled it under the app management area. That's what I do with all of my bloat. I just disable it under settings/application manager/all.
