Hello everyone!
Total newbie here.
I have been going crazy over the past week deciding whether to go with the Galaxy 3 over the upcoming iPhone 5.
I have owned every single released iPhone for the past 5 years. I have jailbroken just about all of them and I enjoy the luxury of having programs like Cydia and Installous installed.
First, I love the way the Galaxy 3 looks and performs. With everything we *think* we know about the upcoming iPhone 5 release, it doesn't look as if Apple is going to be giving its users the same size phone as the GS3. Additionally, it seems iOS 6 has introduced features that have already been available on Android.
Really, I am very nervous about moving off iOS and onto a platform I know little about.
The biggest obstacle for me is Jailbreaking (or what you call ROOTING).
I need to know that I can do it before I buy the GS3 from AT&T.
Hopefully, there is a website with step-by-step pictures on the rooting process as well as all the links to the software I need to do it. I also hope this can be done through a Mac computer.
Finally -- and I know I need to be careful about this -- I am hoping something like Installous is available through rooting. If such discussion is not allowed here, consider this the last time I will bring this up.
I have been looking around at posts, and see stuff about ROMS needed and so-forth. On the outset it sounds complicated. Jailbreaking an iPhone only took one file that you ran on Windows and Mac. I don't know how much more involved rooting is.
Hopefully there is a "Rooting for Dummies" website or tutorial.
Anyone here who is a former iPhone user is welcome to give me your opinion on ROOTING vs. JAILBREAKING and which is better.
The one thing I like about the Galaxy S3 is that it is already customizable even without the need to root, unlike iOS which gives you very little customization.
Thank you, everyone, in advance.
