Bail on Android for Palm Pre?

I am a Sprint subscriber and an Android developer.
I have an ADP1 but only use the Wifi because I am in contract on Sprint.
It is just not worth it to switch carriers for me, the early termination fees are too high, and I am perfectly happy with Sprints service and acceptable rate ($70 for anytime 450 min, unlimited nights, week, text,and data)
I might try and convince my wife to get the Pre because it looks like it will be much more user friendly when compared to the Windows Mobile devices we use now.
As far as me, I am just going to wait it out, get the first android device that comes to Sprint, or just swich to an Android friendly carrier when my contract runs out

All my family is on sprint, so it makes it very hard for me to leave (free mobile-to-mobile), but I am getting seriously antsy. I reeaaallly want an Android handset, my iPhone envy is getting the better of me, but with the new handsets coming out, it just gave me some more patience (and hope) to see what Sprint comes out with.
Palm Pre, meh. I want the real deal.

I've been in the corner for to long!
I've been out of contract for almost 6 months.. waiting for a phone to pick, almost got the Touchpro but held off for an android. Still carrying around my little Mogul. I never really liked any other carrier and Sprint has always been good to me never had any issues. I've seen to many network issues with tmobile and at&t friends.

I am still on the fence. I have been with sprint for a long time and never had any issues with their service. I like the pre and I would like an android device. Yesterday the decision was to get a pre but today after seeing the "Rosie" update video, I want the android again. I think if sprint would announce some type of a devices, not even a release date, that I would feel better. My contract doesn't end until December and I am not waiting until them to upgrade. If they don't give me some type of discount on the pre, then I will wait for the I7500 and move over to T-mobile (if then actually release the device). I am waiting to see what other "real" people say about the pre before I make my decision final. Long story short. I am still on the fence but would bail if it came down to it.

Here's the deal:
I love Android and even the G1. I would love to have a G1, Magic or Galaxy, but I'm not leaving Sprint. They have the fastest 3G, best prices, I have no complaints.
However, the Palm Pre is really awesome, and it's coming out months before the suppossed first Android phone on Sprint. Android took it's sweet time and lost me for it.

Honestly...I wanna play with the Pre. It could be a contender, BUT Sprint is quite bad (too expensive, nice 3G, but Verizon's is still better and horrible signal in a lot of places) and The Palm Pre is a last-ditch effort for Palm and Sprint so it might either be amazing or suck and personally, i'm guessing the latter since last-ditch efforts fail about 80% of the time.

(this post isn't meant to come off hostile, just saying)
The Pre has been in development for years, and look at all the videos out, it's OS isn't a secret. The web browser is faster at rendering and is smoother than Android's or iPhones. We know all of it's features already.
Second, I don't get where you got the idea Sprint was expensive? Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are more expensive than Sprint. Sprint is the cheapest of all the carriers, with the fastest data (Gizmodo even did a comparison and deemed Sprint the winner despite their obsession with the iPhone and AT&T).
Just curious, have you ever had Sprint, or are you just guessing? All over the internet in regards to the Pre you only see people saying "Oh man, I don't want to switch TO Sprint for the Pre" but never "Oh man, I was dying to get OFF of Sprint but I want the Pre."

I guess I'll wait for a good Android phone. The time table is ridiculous, however. There is 1 phone available in the United States and it's been that way for, not weeks, but months. It's going on 8 months now. The Pre and Storm 2 (and possibly the next iPhone) will be on the market before the next Android phone rolls out to the US. That's silly and it's only going to give people incentive to buy something else thereby slowing Android's acceptance (admittedly only slightly) another two years while people are in-contract.
I have nothing against Sprint, but when Palm kicked the Palm OS to the curb for Wind Mobile I was finished with them.
And frankly, anyone else with 2 brain cells should be done with them as well. I mean, you buy a smartphone so you can run the apps you want on it. Well the Palm Pre is the LAST Palm OS phone for the foreseeable future. So why would you not only pay a stiff price for the hardware, but then have to purchase or upgrade all your apps for it, KNOWING that you can't take them on to your next phone?

As a Sprint Customer, I am very disappointed with quality of the Pre hardware despite some nice features of webOS.
I think that Android is a better bet because it is already running on a wide variety of devices and HTC has produced better hardware realitive to Palm.
Noting you posted on 5/19, 1.5 months after the Pre has been released, it has generated more bad pr on the hardware than the G1 did.
The CENTRO is the last Palm OS phone, the Pre runs WebOS a completely different operating system to Palm OS.

Here's something i need help on: I'm going to be getting a smartphone soon. But i don't know what to get. My choices are iPhone 3G S, G1, Pre, or HTC Touch Pro 2. They are all so good. But nothing matches the iPhone's build quality. I love the Web OS but theres no native apps yet. The G1 TP2 and iPhone have native Apps.
And i know everyone is going to tell me G1 because this is a android site, but android is just soooooo slow moving when it comes to updates. Its awesome but theres just something that bugs me about it.
The iphone has the 32 gb ipod in it, that in its self is just so tempting.

Go with the Palm Pre - and I'm not being biased here. Below are the phones that I currently have:
1. Palm Pre
2. HTC MyTouch
3. Blackberry Curve 8900
4. Ipod Touch (I know...not a phone but same OS)
Blackberry is just old. Even with the new OS system. Plus, the OS is on Java. Java! Great for apps but not for OS. It's choppy.
Ipod Touch - Urgh. 65,000 apps. Big friggin deal. Finding a good app that I can use every day is like finding a needle in the haystack. Plus not multi-tasking.
HTC MyTouch - I like this phone and I want to like (or love) it even more. But here's the problem: SLOW. This thing lags - especially even when I am listening to music and trying to send out an email. It's just slow. I finally downloaded "Task Kill" where I can close out the apps that are running in the background. Question is - why doesn't the phone come with a standard feature built in so you can see what's running in the background without having to install a 3rd party app? Also, the virtual keyboard. Man...it makes the iPhone keyboard seems like heaven. It's rough. It's need to be more sensitive. I shouldn't have to take more than 5 minutes to type out a text. Seriously, they need to correct this.
Palm Pre - it's not perfect and it only has 32 officially apps (over 150 if you count the "Homebrews") but the way everything is layed out on this thing just makes everything easier. Sure, it lags when you have multiple apps open but nothing like the MyTouch. The screen is extremely responsive. Downside is the battery life. This sucker sucks up battery life like a child with candy. Battery life on the HTC MyTouch is actually really good. OH yea...you will LOVE the Palm Pre "Synergy". Google it. Apparently a lot of phones do not do this (limited on MyTouch). It just mashes all your contact info (for example, if one person has a facebook profile, gmail, multiple phone #s, etc), the phone will collect all of them and put it into one main contact. It also doesn't pertain to contacts. Apps will "talk" to one another and sync accordingly (flight tracker app with your calendar as an example or the Baseball app with your calendar).

Oh yea...in regards to the Palm Pre hardware - here's the deal and I've been tracking these hardware "issues" since day 1.
I was one of the many buyers on day 1. I heard and saw the problems with the phone. Nothing happened to mine - until a week ago. Two hairline cracks showed up on the upper left corner. Here's the thing - I do not know if this is an actual hardware defect or it's cause I may have dropped it.
Either way, Sprint let me return the phone (outside the 30 day window) and helped me get a new one. It was replaced yesterday. I have my fingers crossed and I am going to buy a REAL case (as anyone should with a "smartphone").
Also, this is my first time experience what the Palm Profile or "cloud" does. Apparently your Palm Pre backup it's own data to a "cloud" once a day. Apparently my phone likes to do it around 11AM (it runs in the background with no interruptions). It only takes seconds. Anyway, so when I got my new phone, I input my userid and password and voila...all the stuff I had on my broken Pre showed up on my new one INCLUDING:
1. Contacts
2. Apps downloaded (so no need to hunt for them again)
3. Gmail, facebook, AIM, Google Talk, etc profiles
4. Tasks (!!!)
The only thing I had to do was organize my icons. Oh yea...it won't backup your pics or music since that you technically take forever. The phone will tell you to drag and drop your Palm Pre folders to your computer prior to switching phones.

Thanks for the help. I understand the pre's hardware defects. And i have played with them all and like them all. The battery life is an issue but they have made some killlller batteries.

I had the Pre and bailed for the Hero. I loved the Pre's OS, but the phone itsself was of questionable build quality.
One thing I do notice is that the Pre had noticeably better reception, it seems. I even lose connectivity every now and then on the Hero, for no reason (my signal is fine and had always been fine with the Pre).
