battery drain

I am trying to help out a buddy. He has the razr maxx hd and since about 3 days ago, his battery is going fast. He is on 4.4.2. For some reason, under settings>battery>android sytem his keep awake time is crazy high. Like right now, his phone has been unplugged for almost 2 hours but his keep awake time is almout 55 minutes. He has everything else turned off. wifi, location, all notifications, etc. What in the world is making it do this all of a sudden. Can anyone offer any ideas? Thanks in advance
Doug

Wipe Cache Partition
Safe Mode
Factory Data Reset

Everyone should be doing a wipe cache partition periodically to remove temporary files. Apps and saved data are not affected. The cache can become corrupted over time increasing response time, CPU usage, and battery depletion. (I do one every week.)

You could try running in Safe Mode (disabling all apps that were added without uninstalling them). If the problem stops it is caused by an app that was added. (If a Factory Data Reset was not done after the last major system upgrade the results from running in Safe Mode can be inconclusive.)

For just about everyone ... a Factory Data Reset should be done after any major system upgrade. Without it, problems can develop days, weeks, or months later.

Thanks Thom. I appreciate you very detailed response. I helped him do the cache partition. He is reluctant to do the fdr though. I guess we will monitor it for a couple of days and see how it goes.

Could be an app as well. Systematically remove some. Once you figure out which you may be able to use Greenify to temper that app.

How do you do a wiped cache partition. Probably once a week I go in under settings >apps> and clear the cache on each app, is that what you are talking about?

I just finished doing that, now time will tell whether it helped or not and whether I need to do a factory reset.
