Help Battery life? (not what you think)

Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems as if my battery doesn't last as long as it used to. No additional apps or usage. It just doesn't seem to last as long between charges. Granted, I've had my Moment since April 2010 and charge it everyday-sometimes twice a day depending on usage and signal strength.
Anyway, I guess my question is what is the typical lifespan of a Lithium-ion battery? With my current usage and charging pattern will it last until my contract is up in another year or should I go ahead and plan on buying another battery sometime soon? As always, thanks in advance.

Someone suggested that I need to let the battery die all the way down before recharging to "reset" the battery meter. I did that and charged it all the way back up. After unplugging it I went to the android market to download a different weather app to try. The battery meter dropped from 100 to 90 within one minute of being unplugged BEFORE I even tried to download the app. I guess my battery is starting to slowly die. :(
I just ordered another OEM battery on eBay. Hopefully the new battery will work like my current one did when it was new.

Lithium ion's lose capacity over time and usage. I'm not an expert, but I've read that you can expect 300-500 full cycles before the battery no longer holds a useful charge. The "drain completely and then fully charge to teach the battery meter" method has been pretty throughly debunked. Completely discharging the battery can permanently damage it, negating any advantage from teaching the battery metering system in the phone. If you've been using the phone for a while i.e. more than a year, it may simply be time for a new battery.

So by trying to reset the battery meter it's possible that I made the battery worse? Great! Lol

The new OEM battery should be here in a few days. thanks for your help.

my charger actaully died before the battery did. the charger gave out after about a year. the orginal battery still works, but dies very quickly. i've had my phone since release date so i guess a year and some change ain't bad for battery life.

Update on the battery situation. The new OEM Samsung battery I bought from eBay arrived and I charged it completely today. It is a lot better than my old one! The new battery is lasting as long as my original one did when I first got the phone. Not bad for $4.49 w/ free shipping!

yeah, all of our batteries should be starting to die by now.
especially because the battery life was so crappy to begin with, we would suck them down and have to charge them so often.
the same battery in a better device will last several times longer than they did in these phones.

a new battery is the way to go.

actually... a phone phone is the way to go.

if sprint hasn't pissed you off yet, they have some decent phones to look at.

otherwise verizon is the way to go, and will be for a long time.

I was considering getting a new phone when I was eligible for an upgrade. As a Premiere member I was due for an upgrade on 4/2/11, BUT as we're all aware by now they have recently changed their Premiere program. Since I have the $69.99 plan I'm only eligible for phone upgrades every 2 years instead of every year. Their changes took effect on 4/1/11 which sucks because that means I missed it by only 1 DAY!!!

If you speak to the right rep I bet you can get the upgrade especially if you have a service history on your Moment.

If we didn't have a family plan with an employer discount I would just port my number to Cricket when my contract is up. Sprint and Samsung royally screwed us on updates and support and if not for sites like this and especially SDX forums I would be angry rather than annoyed
