Root [BETA]Cyanogen!! Landed!!! :) Go get it![Updated 7/12/2011]

#3 still loses root, but you can get it back by downloading the newest superuser via rom manager.

I couldn't install via rom manager though, so you have to go to your download folder, "gooinsideme", and find the superuser file. Then flash that in recovery.

I'm on 3, re-rooted with the superuser download, CRT animation...

still had to do the GPS hack to get Yelp and Maps to work. Although you have the GPS icon pop up without the hack, but no locating.

No other noticeable improvements.

cell standby is still high

I'm on Build #4.

Navigation & Maps worked first try.
I came from Build 0. No modifications.
A note to everyone...

Make sure you have flashed Superuser 2.3.6.3 efgh before flashing past build #0

Its not CM7 removing root, its the previous version of Superuser itself causing the issue.

Superuser Developer CHAINSDD wrote and I quote,

"By now you all know what Superuser is and what it does, but here's an update for all of those people that are having problems with Superuser on newer builds of Gingerbread. In newer versions, Write-ahead logging is used in SQLite and that causes problems if the database is open in multiple places. This update eliminates that issue by making sure that the database is only open in either the apk, or the binary."

Camera still won't save picture taken.
No Netflix either.
(No complaining here, just chiming in)
I tried registering my DroidX for push updates under System in the Cyanogen settings. Still broken it seems.

Just happy to see the DroidX under the CM7 TREE!
1 week in since the video that cvpcs created showing the installation and booting of CM4DX, & now have nightlies.......
I'd say this BETA is off to a great start.

Camera still a no go.

Exact same results. GPS appears to be working with both satellite and network fix's I think. Pulling up maps located me in a few seconds about 10 miles from where I am (in the sticks), which is the same result I used to get under apex, etc. After maybe 20-30 seconds, got exact fix from satellites.

Both built-in camera and Vignette are still failing. Strangely the camera button does not work within either app, although it does pull up the camera app menu when in ADW.

Hoping CVPCS posts his changes to the repository soon, especially for the camera fix.

Can nandroid's be flashed/restored between rooted 596 and cm7 without sbfing I have a back-up of 596 in recovery and a back-up of cm7 in recovery it's not real clear if this can be done.

No. CM7 uses a different kernel from 596.

I'm staying on cm7 myself, its just a phone and provides the primary phone functions well. I don't need gps cause I know were I am and were I'm going.

I'm going to knock on a big piece of wood cause my phone seem's to be running pretty good on cm7 also. Just got done flashing nightly #4.Gps seem's fine but camera does still have problem's but the camera was never the x's strong suit anyway. If you fart while taking a picture with a phone the picture's turn out all blurry anyway.

Right now I'm in the original build with the green CWR and the CRT mod. How to I go to the latest nightly with the newest version of CWR?

Had a blast with the CM7 Beta. I'll return when the bugs are worked out and it's more fully featured. Until then, I'm going to Apex 2.0.

I need a favor from one of you 596 guys :p. Please check the root directory (one level up from system) and upload the following files:

init.mapphone_cdma.rc
init.mapphone_umts.rc

Thanks in advance :D

i noticed in rom manager that under extras there is a newer version of gapps -- 20110613. has anyone downloaded this and tried the newer version?

also, if it isnt against the rules, could someone shoot me a PM with a my verizon.apk? I cant seem to find it in the market, probably because of the gapps that we install.

did root get returned on this build or do we still have to go through the manual process?

*edit* nevermind, root has been returned to the build

are you being serious?...did i not post about how Beta=Broken with less letters...and that people don't understand what Beta means?...

i completely understand why this is a beta...we (myself and a couple others) were discussing why it is that we have not yet flashed CM7...i didn't realize that was not allowed...

i will however leave with this...

i know the big slogan of CM is "our devices, our way." implying that OEMs/Carriers lock down phones and don't allow us to fully use what we pay for....

well i paid for an 8MP camera...GPS location services, and a CPU capable of hardware decoding of media files...

CM7 doesn't allow me to enjoy those features yet...

as for real Gingerbread...you mean the one that doesn't even have speed dial? ;)

Lol wow. sorry my barely incoherent post offended you. I had already started drinking and was running on very little sleep. The main point of the post was actually supposed to be defending the people in here that haven't flashed it. that you guys don't need a reason to not flash it. There are plenty of obvious ones lol So calm down, you want/need the features its missing and I don't. So I flashed it . Have you tried flashing it yet or are you just waiting for a more final build?

far more coherent this time. lol!
You are correct, there is nothing in the rule book that says you have to try out every new ROM. Some of us feel compelled to try them, while others don't, that's why there are more than one developer in this game, diversity.
I love this new build, even though some things don't work, mainly because it IS stable, the devs are working on the bugs, and it gives me something to look forward to with my handset pretty much every day. What else can a guy like me ask for?:p

Has anyone tried the LED settings on this? Does it work on the X?

Way back when, I know they merged a few utilities made for CM into the main release that allowed the Nexus trackball to glow various colors for notifications, similar to what Lightflow does - you could have one-after-the-other notifications, or mixed color notifications (e.g. blue email + yellow SMS = green trackball).

Does this work on the X notification LED?
