Blue vs grey signal bars

I've noticed that they change back and forth between blue and grey. What's the difference? Sometimes I have no internet even though my wife with the same phone in the same room has service. What gives

Grey= Not connected to Google Services
Blue= Connected to Google Services

Totally unrelated to whether or not you can surf the web. Same room is a pretty big area. Have seen many phones have or lose data connection by simply moving it six inches. Just to eliminate PRL and profile issues, go to settings/about phone/updates and update profile and prl.
