Root [Boost Mobile] Give me water! Im thirsty!

Peace everyone! First I would like to say thanks to all the developers out there who strive to make every technological advance even better. I have been on quite a few forums and websites but I have never received so much inspiration till i came here. I am a long-term so-called "lurker"(even though simple reading always answered what I needed to know and I never got into developing so I never opened my mouth) since the days of the prevail and Shabby. I have rooted, modded and/or tweaked a nice selection of phones, tablets, computers, gaming systems, mp3 players and i accomplished a few other tasks that I cannot explain publicly. So I pretty much know the lingo. My question is that I am really interested in start developing and giving back. I have watched hours of videos on youtube and I have a lot of developer websites bookmarked that I read over every now-and-then. My question is, what is the best and must-have software for a developer? It seems everyone recommend different programs and I just dont know what to use. I have a thumb drive full of software that I have downloaded due to someones suggestions. My old Xp box already has sdk,adb and eclipse set-up from when I was doing work with the kindle fire(1st. gen.). I now have a windows 7 64-bit box that someone donated to me and I want to get this thing rolling. I have adk already but I also keep hearing bout android studio. Yall input will be greatly appreciated. Now lets hack the world!!!

Welcome to Android Forums!
My favorite program of choice is Virtuous Ten Studio, but I'm doing all my stuff on Windows. VTS is probably the "Android Studio" you've heard of. I also use WinRAR for going through apks without extracting them or to replace images quickly, and it also makes extraction faster. I also use Photoshop CS6 for editing images, I don't use gimp for ninepatch drawables, I just save as a special file type in photoshop. Those are some great tools to use, other than that I don't know what else could be used aside from dsixda's android kitchen.

Thanks Skinny! I have been reading up on VTS and it seems pretty straight forward and adds different functions in one suite. Its not the new Android Studio I been reading and hearing about however. If you go to the android SDK link in the ATR section the developer website has a description and download. Here is a list of software I have on my thumb drive for anyone that may want try and/or need alternative or additional tools: aapt, android builder master, android kitchen(dsixda), apk multi-tool(manager), apk tool, baksmali, droid explorer, boot animation factory, power cmd, png gauntlet, dfs, smali, xultimate, winrar, gimp, paint.net, adt, stupid kitchen, stupid android utility, 7zip, irfanview, notepad++ and of course jdk. just my little input and thanks again. Will report back when finish playing wit "toys".

As Skinny said - and I couldn't agree more - VTS is pretty much the tool to have for developing on Windows. My entire development suite consists of it, Notepad++, 7Zip and Paint.NET exclusively with a little ABSM and WinMerge thrown in for good measure. That's pretty much all you need!

From my research, I know your right LilBit. I do have a copy of Mint laying around here somewhere. I just havent took the time to dual-boot my system. Definitely will be doing that real soon. Thanx for the advice...

Another question! I came across a sound mod called viper4android thats for the kindle hd. Do yall scientist think we could port that over to our warp.
