Root Bootlaoder, backup and new ROM

I have a friend who has a spirit, it is rooted. He was interested in trying to install a ROM after seeing my N5 with liquid smooth rom. Can anyone please post some links so I can point him in the right direction? He is not tech illiterate, but kind new to the android scene. I assume he needs to install a recovery, which one is recommended, I see two. Is there any truly stable Roms for this device, I think i saw that the CWM is not complete. Thanks in advance guys.
