Root Bricked Z970

Trowen

Lurker
I used KingRoot to temp root, then I flashed TWRP as my custom recovery (got the download from this thread: http://androidforums.com/threads/guide-how-to-root-your-zmax-complete-rom-resource-listing.918933/). I couldn't boot into TWRP so I tried to temp root again, but KingRoot started giving me problems. I decided to just factory reset my device, it's now stuck at a black screen with the notification light on. When I hold the power button, the device just turns on and off. I can boot into FTM Mode but not TWRP.

I installed the JDK and Android SDK on my computer and setup the path environment variable to tools, platform-tools, and jdk/bin. The problem is, when I plug my device into my computer, no drivers are installed ...

When I execute the command ' adb devices' it gives me the message 'error : cannot connect to daemon'. I was following this thread: http://androidforums.com/threads/zte-zmax-4-4-4-metro-pcs-bricked-help.919275/page-3 but adb just isn't working for me ...

Had you tried holding the volume down button and power at the same time ? Have you tried just turning it off completely first, then just restarting it to see if it will boot normally ? You might just be driving yourself crazy for no reason at all.

If you have successfully flashed twrp, you can boot into it from a cold boot by pressing and holding volume up instead of down. Pressing volume down only works on reboot. Lol

I charged the phone overnight, now for some reason, holding the down or up volume buttons does nothing. All the phone does is power on and the notification light flickers, then instantly powers off when I hold the power button.

Power + Volume Down booted into FTM yesterday, while Power + Volume Up is suppose to boot into recovery, though I've not gotten in to work

Sorry to hear that. Very! In the future remember that a factory reset from settings with a custom recovery installed is a big no no. Wish I could help more, but I've never been there and hope I never will.

Several people have bricked their phones by trying to do a factory reset from the settings menu after installing twrp and flashing a custom ROM. I always wondered whether it was a problem with the ROMs but, since you never installed a custom rom, now we know it's an issue with our build of twrp. Hopefully this will be a lesson to people not to reset from the settings menu. The only way I ever do a factory reset anymore is to do it manually using the power and volume buttons, commonly known as a "hard reset." The problem has something to do with twrp not being able to process the commands sent to it by the settings app. Unfortunately your only hope of fixing your phone is by using adb shell. If you can't get adb shell to work then there isn't any fixing your phone.

After factory reseting the phone from the setting app I get a TWRP loop were the it just flashes the teamwin logo. I can get access to adb shell. Any ways to fix this?
