Buying this phone unlocked

What should I download to my LG when it arrives?

I'm a complete beginner with Android phones and I'm still using the same phone I've had for the past 4-5 years. Any essential apps I should get?

EDIT: and what should I do about the firmware? Mods?

I recently bought one that was unlocked too. I googled to get some ideas first myself. I got Go Launcher EX and email app since I couldn't get the built-in one to work with yahoo mail. I also upgraded to gingerbread 2.3.4 which for me seemed to have increased my battery life. The rest, I would say just take your time to get to know your phone, and then see what kinds of apps make sense for you. Hope that helps a little.
