Can tasker manage airplane mode, constantly turning it on and off ?

Hello,

I do not have tasker yet, but am interested in learning it if it can do the following. I know I will need to root my phone to accomplish it.

I want a super battery saver. Below a certain battery percentage this mode will be triggered.

When in the mode, Airplane mode will be enabled for a certain amount of time (say 10 minutes), then airplane mode will be disabled for a certain amount of time (say 2 minutes), then this will repeat.

Idea is to be in a very low power mode in which I cant get phone calls and texts, and then every so often go back to regular mode to pick up missed texts and voice mails. Many battery apps have this for wireless, but not airplane mode (which I know requires root).

Tasker seems very powerful, I just wanted some feedback to see if this can be done before I proceed to learn tasker.

Thanks...

I'm using Tasker on an un-root-ed Droid Maxx running 4.4.4.

If you go to Net Action there is an Airplane Mode action. It is flagged as not available in 4.2+ and suggests using the Secure Settings plug-in on a root-ed device.

All,

I bought tasker and started to play around with it on my unrooted Galax S3. I saw that airplane mode was RED with an X, indicating i couldnt control it, but while just going through a bunch of the events, I found that PHONE->RADIO did exactly what I needed, as it turned off the cellular radio (or turned it back on).

Based on all my research, I didnt think that would be possible without root, so I was shocked AND very happy.

Once I had this, it was simple to set up what I wanted, I just did a task that shut the radio off, waited for ten minutes, then turned the radio on for 2 minutes, then a goto statement to the top of the loop.

It worked well. I get delayed texts and voice mails, but on my weak battery
i got 8.5 hours out of 30% of the battery . while this doesnt sound great, my battery discharges fast these days, so thats a great improvment.

Thanks

Great solution ... and helpful.

I just tried it. Airplane mode status is displayed in thee different places. When you do the Radio Off the status is not correctly displayed in all locations. The same is true when you do a Radio On.
