Help Can you save Apps to the SD card?

lawizard

Newbie
I wanted to save some of my apps to the SD card like I do with my phone but I can't find an option that lets me do that. Do I need to download the app that moves apps to the SD card?

I just got this today so I'm still learning how it all works. I have looked through the manual and the forum and haven't found anything that addresses this.

No, you cannot. This feature was removed since the introduction of ICS. Unless Samsung enables this feature again (like they did the S4), you won't be able to do it. And no app will be able to help in this either.

The only way around this is to root the device and trick the system into thinking the external storage is internal. More info about this can probably be found in XDA.

I really don't want to root my Note 8. I have an Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and one reason why I upgraded was the hope that I could save some apps to SD so that I could have a broader choice of apps. Guess not.

Once you have updated to 4.2.2, in each app (app manager) you can select to move it to the sd card. This choice seems to be available for most apps except the Google and Samsung ones.

Footnote to clarify: It appears that about 25% of the app/data remains in the device memory with the balance transferred to the sd card.

Good to see Samsung enabled it for the Note 8.0 with it's meager 16GB storage with the 4.2.2 update. I don't have a Note 8.0, so really wasn't sure. I don't have that with the Note 10.1 running 4.1.2, but it does have double the capacity (32GB) than the Note 8.0.

Now if they can do it for the Note 2, I'd be a happy camper... :)

Thanks seanote for the info.

I have apps loaded onto my sd card. I'm not sure how it happened, I must have some setting turned on. There is a separate column in the application manager that shows where apps are loaded onto, one is the sd card.

Now my issue is that with my tab7.0 plus the app fully goes on the sd card. I can load that thing up. Now with my note 8 only a very small amount of the app goes on the sd card. Now the app in applocations say 1 gb of need for speed out of 1.25gbs is on the sd card but it isnt. Only the .25gb is. So l have 5 games on my note with all of the stating that most of the app is on my 64gb sd card but only a little over a gb is on it and my tablets internal memory is slam full. Again in setting under apps it states that most of it should be on my sd card but it isnt. Now l have done a factory reset again but it still does the same. I even tried downloading other games on it that are able to transfer but they do the same.

Kind of makes apps to sd on this thing useless
