Can you white list texts?

I've been getting spam texts and it's very irritating. Isn't there a way to have the phone either reject or automatically trash a text message from someone not in my contract list?

Blocking is usually done by your provider (Verizon, Sprint, Orange, etc.)

There are some SMS blocking apps in the Play market. I haven't tried any of them.

Go sms allows this

Looks like Handcent SMS can also. Just longpress on the offending sender from the conversation list and select Blacklist from the pop up menu.
