Help Can't get Bluetooth tethering (S3 mini to XP) to work

Jun 23, 2013
Hi, everyone,

I am a bit stumped trying to Bluetooth tether my Samsung Galaxy SIII mini to my XP laptop. The phone and laptop are paired correctly, but when I double-click the Network Service icon in "my Bluetooth places" on the laptop, I get an error message ("The remote device closed the connection"). Bluetooth Tethering has been enabled in the phone's Settings menu.

I have tried to manually add a network connection on the laptop, and to use the phone as a dial-up device, but I keep getting errors staying that the service is not supported by the remote device (i.e. the phone).

Google comes up with tons of manuals on how to USB tether my phone to my laptop, but I can't find anything for Bluetooth.

Yes, I could use the phone as a portable WiFi hotspot (which will sort me out in a pinch for the moment) but that's not really what I want.

Am I overlooking something obvious here?

All pointers into the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
