Help Couple simple questions about installing a new rom

sc0ttt

Lurker
Found this forum when I decided to install a new rom on my triumph. Pretty much stuck with it for a while and want to get the most out of it, and that's not happening with froyo. This forum has been an awesome source of info, but I do have a couple questions I hope someone can answer.
First, when installing a new rom like cm9 does it wipe everything like the phone number and my account info? (factory reset)
Second, if it does erase that info is that something I can just put back in myself or do I have to call Virgin.
I know these seem like pretty lame questions, but I found no reference to them here or any other source. Thanks in advance.

It won't wipe your phone number... Your phone will still be activated.
It will wipe your data (apps, call logs, text msgs, contacts, etc).

make sure to have your contacts synced with your Gmail account and they will all come back.

Everything else can be backed up with an app (most commonly Titanium Backup) and restored after the new ROM installation.

Once you sign in to your Google account on first boot (don't forget to flash Google apps -gapps- with the ROM) all your contacts will be restored.

1. yes, but the phone will still be activated with the same number.
2. lots of ways to back up stuff. Save a copy of your current stock rom in clockwork and you can restore most of the data with AppExtracor (won't get text messages back) or use Titanium Backup on your stock phone and restore with your new rom. SMS Backup will restore SMS text, but not MMS. You can simply Sync your contacts with your Gmail account and restore that way as well.

Nice, thanks for the replies. It's just gotten to the point where I'm deleting anywhere from 5 to 10 alog files a day, it's a constant thing. I'm in the transportation industry and I use my phone all the time, whether its finding a restaurant or checking traffic on google maps its a pain to have to go into root explorer and delete files just so I can do any of that without my phone freezing up.
Thanks again.

Permanent fix for the alog files is simple now that you've gotten that far... just remove Write permissions for them.

... or just change ROMS. :D
