Cracked screen- is it worth fixing?

Hi!
My tablet was dropped and the screen is cracked and i can't use it.
I haven't used it for 1 year. It charged it now and there is a certain spot where the touchscreen is responding, but it doesn't really help with anything.
I want to access my memory, the laptop recognizes the device (i get a "Nexus 7" icon), but it says that the folder is empty.
Is there a way to recover my data? without replacing the screen.
I'd like to give it in for fixing after I save the data on my laptop first.

I'm sorry to hear you had your N7 dropped. That sucks. I looked around quickly and found a N7 digitizer on eBay... you can get them relatively cheap. Installing it is the problem.

If you're more interested in recovering data, it's impossible to say for sure, but I have a feeling you might have a problem. Even with a cracked digitizer you should be able to access the device if it's powered on via USB.

I would think that either one or a combination of it being dropped and it sitting for a year might have lost your data permanently. Just as a last ditch effort you might take it to Geek squad or some data recovery expert and let them look at it.

I'm sorry I couldn't have been of more help but at least I hope I pointed you in the right direction.
