Decreasing brightness

is there any way to further decrease brightness levels other than the manual bar slider or auto brightness?
I want the screen to go about half of its lowest setting.
I use the phone a lot in near total darkness and its to friggin bright!

I'm interested too. Even at the lowest brightness when in the dock at night and dimmed it lights up the room.

I believe the default "lowest brightness" setting is actually only 10%. I use Timeriffic to change my setting based on the time of day and at night I set it to 5%. It's definitely darker than the standard lowest setting. If I leave the screen on for too long, it will even automatically "dim" to a brighter setting.

Be careful though. When I first installed it, I tried setting the brightness to 0%. Apparently this means absolutely dark. I couldn't see anything on screen and had to wait until the next morning for my "day profile" to take effect and brighten the screen.

There is a couple of apps on the market that dim your Droid, but none go below the factory setting ,I don't believe.
But I do know that if you root, there is a minimum brightness hack that you can use that dims it dramatically. But the question is, is rooting worth it?
Hope this helps.

damn, I am always on the lowest setting, far left of slide bar, and use the Power Management widget to tap up the brightness when I head outside. point is, that lowest setting is damn dim, hard to believe you would want to go less.

'Dimmer' on the market goes down to level 10. No root needed.
'Bright Control' floating around on alldroid goes down to level 2 if you have root.
30 is the lowest stock settings will take you. 255 is max.

Side note, LEDs hack will turn off the leds on the bottom for root users. They are friggin bright in a pitch black room.

but I wonder what happens with an app like "Dimmer" if you use the Power Management app that allows you to tap the "brightness" icon to turn up or down the brightness. do they conflict.

I can easily navigate in pitch dark with the screen on the lowest brightness setting! At night I play around on the net in the dark and this thing is blinding
